Another thing you can do to protect birds is, if you happen to be the mayor of a large city on a major migratory flyway, say, a city like Chicago, you can work with your city council to make bird-friendly design mandatory for all new construction.
Did you have your lights off? Over ONE BILLION BIRDS flew through the United States in just one night!!!!
Thank you @DrBirdCast for creating and providing such amazing tools to visualize and quantify bird migration!
You ever wondered what a couple seconds of a tiny portion of sky would look like during a morning with 180,000+ migrating warblers?
That’s oddly specific, but wonder no more!
Nearly 1,000 migratory birds died at ONE building just this morning in Chicago. Imagine across the whole city.
Please please please consider turning lights off in your home and offices over night as our feathered friends make their journey south!

What berry bushes do you provide for birds to chow down upon?

The Flocking Around Roost had quite an interesting visitor last week! So why does this Broad-tailed Hummingbird look like this?! It has some sort of color mutation, leading to a form of albinism! (Some might use the catch-all term leucistic.)

Here's a champion laborer of the animal kingdom that often goes unheralded. The bumblebee! The honey bee often gets a lot of credit, but it is not a native species to North America! The humble bumble, though, is a major pollinator of many North American plant species!

If there is one sports team that is deserving of the Rock Pigeon as its mascot, I think I have identified it: https://t.co/Qc7bT3VUHe

Here is a throwback to last year when Flocking Around went to see the monsoonal rains of the desert southwest! This is a baby Barn Swallow that had fledged and was practicing its regal perch!

The Flocking Crew is on the road helping members of the flock! So here is a Black-necked Stilt image to remind you to go see some shorebird migration!
Who has seen one of these recently?
