our trip wasn't all about birds- we saw some sea turtles too! I'd never seen hawksbill turtles on LHI before. Normally you see green turtles hanging about eating seagrass.
Howdy all, I've got a huge backlog of images from the recent trip to Lord Howe Island. I'm going to process them in batches and tweet threads about Lord Howe wildlife.
Ready? LET'S DO IT!

It's great when you're on an island and everything is predator naive. Nothing really minds if you come up and approach them. You have to be respectful and read the animals, but they're pretty cool with you coming over to have a look.
It’s 3 degrees outside in Sydney! THREE DEGREES! 🥶
It’s actually 0 at my house. Meanwhile, it’s a beautiful balmy 16 on Lord Howe Island right now. These glorious mild temperatures are coupled with incredible… https://t.co/UrLiI6AtfO
Varied Sitella from a recent Capertee Valley trip. They’re a really amazing little bird- an Australian version of the northern hemisphere Nuthatches. #wildoz
Do you have a good possum or glider photo? We are building a citizen science app on possums & gliders, together with @CAULHub. The app will help citizen scientist id and record sightings of animals. Check the link for more info and where to send your pics.

OK blogsters, the key word is governance today as the fallout of the Barnaby Joyce interview reverberates around #auspol and reports reveal political donations from our old friend at #HelloWorld#politicslive https://t.co/tZr5zGnW0c
Another nocturnal shot from the weekend: the Australian Owlet Nightjar is the smallest nocturnal bird species. They’re actually really tiny- most of their body is fluff and very fine light feathers. Adorable! #WildOZ
Barn Owls are quite common but somehow this is the first one we’ve had in the view finder in the Capertee Valley. It was lovely to have one busy hunting while we managed a few photos. #WildOz
We had quite a bit of luck with the nocturnal creatures on a recent trip to the Capertee Valley. Look at this adorable (and friendly) Sugar Glider. She was busy licking sap from an Acacia tree and didn’t mind us taking a few photos. #wildoz
