Under the Hoseths' model, about 80% of the consumer dollar goes back to the farm and ranch gate.
Under the national beef market model, it's 27% to 50%.
That's the whole story.
Cody Hoseth knocked on a rancher's door at 17 and asked to learn the cattle business. 14 years later, he and his wife Jen opened their own USDA-certified slaughter facility in Eltopia, Washington.
It took nine attempts to get a kill floor. Nine months just to get a permit to build.
"A smarter person wouldn't have done it."
They built Lone Crow Meat Processing for $700,000 — Cody did all the construction himself. It should have cost three to four times that.
1,000 head of cattle. 400 acres owned, 2,000 leased. Two meat markets, a butcher shop, two 24-hour beef vending machines. 25 workers on payroll.
Neither of them grew up in agriculture. They started selling meat at farmers markets and parking lots.
Now five to six large family ranches will bring their cattle to the Eltopia site.

"If you're not motivated enough to think about this in a 40-year perspective, I just would recommend doing something else." — @Lone_Crow_Ranch
My wife and I got into it last night about the grocery bill.
I pulled up an old Target order from February 2020.
28 items. $64.50.
Added every single one back to the cart just to see.
$158.30.
Same 28 items. Same store. Same cart.
$93.80 more.
In five years.
We didn’t buy more.
Didn’t upgrade anything.
Didn’t add a single extra item.
Just needed the same things we always needed.
They told us inflation was transitory. They told us it was under control. They told us the economy was strong.
Our cart didn’t get any of those memos.
145% increase in five years.
Not one member of Congress has looked at a grocery receipt in decades.
And it shows.
🚨 America needs MORE skilled workers
Mike Rowe: "The Pentagon needs 400,000 welders and electricians just for submarine contracts over the next seven or eight years. It's mind-boggling—and they're all competing for your kid."

Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold:
Two kids. One rich. One poor.
Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids.
The rich kid has two choices.
Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more.
Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater.
The poor kid has two choices too.
Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been.
Or outwork everyone in the room.
Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch.
Same choice for all of them.
Ownership or victimhood.
Fuel or excuse.
The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it.
The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it.
Greatness doesn't come from where you start.
It comes from which kid you choose to feed.
