As a Namibian filmmaker I am very sad to hear this. There is so much South African content of high quality you cannot purchase physically that was on Showmax. Not to mention we had our short films there aswell. 😡🫠💔💔💔💔
Africa needs a streaming platform.
A future filmmaker who channels part Mr Beast and part Tarantino is indeed out there, and will create something both commercially and critically appealing, by himself, with nothing more than a computer.
Technological advances level the playing field, and A.I. will be a part of the future of filmmaking.
This is reality.
But again, for those in the back of the room, when anybody can create a full length feature, then taste becomes the ultimate arbiter and differentiator.
The best movie wins.
To stand out amongst an infinite sea of options, one must make something truly great.
And in that respect, I bet on the humans, every time, to create the best art.
Long live the movies.
A 24 min standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival for a film that captures the cries of Gaza. It was really heartbreaking watching this film amidst an ONGOING genocide. The violence and atrocities in apartheid Israel is truly unbecoming of humanity. How many more.
