Lt Colonel Deenadayalan Govender has applied to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for portions of his evidence to be heard in camera, citing the sensitive nature of the information he is expected to provide.

“If it is necessary for argument in the in-camera application to be heard, the
Commission will hear argument on or after 27 August 2026 at 16h30.”

At the Commission yesterday, Govender strongly denied allegations against him, saying he was being unfairly targeted and used as a “pawn.”

Govender played audio recordings which he said showed alleged attempts by political fixers and associates to pressure him. He alleged that Mavuso Ntandani, who has been linked to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, pressured and threatened him to falsely implicate KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in cases involving fatal police shootings.
