Six hours after Travis Alexander died, his ex-girlfriend left a cheerful message on his phone. She invited him to see a play.
"Let me know. Talk to you soon. Bye."
She had just killed him.
Days later, Jodi Arias sent 20 white irises to the grandmother who raised Travis, with a letter saying how sorry she was for the family's loss. Then she went to his memorial.
Police found his camera in the washing machine. The last photos showed him bleeding. Her palm print was on the wall, in his blood.
In the video below, three months later, she talks to Inside Edition from jail. She is calm, polite, almost cheerful.
"Did you kill Travis Alexander?"
"I absolutely did not."
She says two people in masks broke in and attacked them both.
At 2:15 she's asked if she stabbed him 27 times. "That's heinous," she says.
Then she makes a promise.
"No jury will convict me. You can mark my words on that one."
In 2013, a jury convicted her of first-degree murder. By then she had admitted she killed him, and called it self-defense.
Minutes after the verdict, she told a reporter: "Death is the ultimate freedom."
At 2:47, seven years after her promise, she finally says it. "I'm horrified because of what I did."
She got life in prison with no chance of parole.
Some people say she was a broken woman in a toxic relationship. Others say a woman who sent flowers to his grandmother after killing him knew exactly what she was doing.
Was life in prison enough for Jodi Arias?
