Looks like Labor’s whole AI pitch today treats the problem as datacentres taking too long to get approved, but that was never what people were worried about. People hate having no say at all while big tech gets the green light faster and faces less scrutiny than ever.
Male violence, girls and women murdered. There seems to be a run of it at the moment, worse than usual. A distressing new headline every day. And what’s being done about it ? SFA, so far as I can see.
Today's Guardian headlines widespread malpractice in #agedcare where residents are charged extravagant fees for services they don't want & never asked for. Tragedy of aged care in Australia is that legislation heavily supports providers not residents. Huge change needed NOW.
While the Australian Democrats have lost any real purpose, we need a party like what they used to be decades ago: one that works with whatever party is in government instead of attacking everybody. One that can work for the interests of all Australians instead of their own interests, but there seem to be very few such parties.
Australia's antisemitism envoy complains that Australian public broadcasters are presenting too negative a view of Israel's genocide. There must be a brighter side to the genocide that the journalists could come up with, no? https://t.co/7v6tzfjbAU
In 1916, a pack of dogs attacked a private zoo in Hawaii. Two terrified wallabies broke out of their cage and escaped into the mountains.
What happened next is one of the wildest accidents in wildlife history.
After the wallabies vanished into the forested cliffs of Kalihi Valley, the zoo's owner called for a massive public hunt. Nobody caught them.
A local newspaper joked that they might eventually "produce a breed of Hawaiian wallabies."They were exactly right.
Despite being 5,000 miles from Australia, the steep volcanic rock faces in Hawaii turned out to be the perfect habitat.
By 1984, researchers counted roughly 250 wallabies thriving in the valley. They had even started developing their own unique evolutionary characteristics.
The craziest part?
They aren't considered invasive. They only eat non-native plants.
They don't compete with native species (Hawaii has no native land mammals).
Because they peacefully coexist with the ecosystem, the state of Hawaii officially protects them. It is strictly illegal to hunt or harm a Hawaiian wallaby.
Back in their native Australia, the brush-tailed rock wallaby is fighting for its life. Predators, habitat clearing, and the devastating 2019-2020 bushfires wiped out an estimated 70% of their remaining habitat.
But that accidental Honolulu colony?
They have no foxes. No feral cats in the cliffs. No bushfires.
Two wallabies that broke out of a cage 110 years ago accidentally founded what might be the most secure population of their species anywhere on Earth.
Multiculturalism is one of Australia's greatest strengths, bringing together diverse cultures, perspectives and traditions under the Australian flag we all share and love. 🇦🇺
We are at our best when people are included and united by shared values, mutual respect and a commitment to building a better future together.

Barbaric & sickening. This is our ally?
TUCKER CARLSON: “It’s not a crime to criticise genocide in Gaza, it should be a crime to commit genocide in Gaza. Killing kids is worse than criticising the killing of kids.”
The fact that Tucker has to say this out loud is INSANE.

The captain of Iran’s National Team, Mehdi Taremi, calls out FIFA and the U.S.:
“This is a disaster World Cup. We can’t stay in the country and have to travel every time we play without any recovery. Now we can’t stay in Seattle and have to return to Tijuana. This is not fair.”

Barrie Cassidy notes that 75% of Australians support multiculturalism and points out that Angus Taylor dodged the question five times. Tony Barry argues that by overcomplicating an issue with such overwhelming public support, the Coalition is only undermining itself.
