@ZoeyTur@WIclassic They were 800ft agl. That is above the top 500 minimum for a doable autorotation to be successful. It is clear the pilot was stunned and didn’t act quickly enough. Stats say helmet fire. But the shock have have induced a medical
@VEQOapp Tragedy. Glamerous job. Glamerous young woman. Wonder how much she (or other reporters) understood the risk of this role. Love A-Star's. But the mission requires a lot of hovering...at low altitude. When the motor lets go in that situation options are nil
@tdohrmann Ring-state is also called "settling with power". They had no power. So it wasn't that. I thought the same thing at first. You can hear the turbine start to spin down then the low rpm horn. Why is the question?
@usereveryburner@AugmentedRyan It appears the aircraft that crashed had least altitude. Pretty sure they all have SOP's that require stationary hover above the curve
@GoldyRiSA@JeffVaughn Actually as she panned away it appeared higher than the video originally showed. SOP would have not allowed a low hover. Seems the recovery action was delayed.
@docmcst77519949@EODWX5 Despite all those hours and being in a very capable aircraft you never really know how good you are until the moment of truth arrives. What a shame.
@docmcst77519949@EODWX5 They were in a low rotor rpm state. Pitching forward would make it worse. Cyclic aft would increase rpm. They were in the zone where autorotation was very unlikely. 14k hr pilot. Ugh.
@MCCCANM pitching too quickly in many situations winds up being suboptimal. Engine loss post V1….Vr snatch ? why? make sure you are aligned with the centerline and ready for what’s to come. if you stay on the ground a few more knots and pitch to the fd you will have an easier task
@Berg0ut@CPowers14 that’s golf. fans love the legends winning over the dawgs. unlike college bb for example. eventually guys like Clark earn that right. but he isn’t there yet. I hated Watson when he beat Jack in 82 at Pebble but i was rooting for him to beat Cink at the Open. that golf!
