My logic here all starts with his seemingly rogue comment about Iran keeping rockets and missiles, which has freaked out many, particularly Israelis and their supporters.
I'm betting the Gulf States are really uncomfortable, like Israel is, with that statement. They're not stupid. They're also targets, like Israel is. Less, but a lot, and the IRGC are crazy bastards. Makes me think Trump made it for them.
The thing is, they didn't do their parts and aren't yet. And Trump's definitely pissed at them because they straight up didn't help during the war (so far…). They wouldn't even let us use their airspace and tried to close down our own military bases. Trump didn't like that and didn't forget. No way.
So Trump letting them feel some legitimate heat that can be resolved by accomplishing his primary goals makes a lot of basic sense.
If we remember Trump's goals and work backwards, it's actually a little easier to see how this makes sense, even the MOU with it's big carrot/big stick arrangement that basically nobody believes will stick (thus terrifying Israel but, I'll bet, also those Gulf States). So what are Trump's goals?
1) Expand Abraham Accords;
2) KSA allying formally with Israel, which was happening until October 7 disrupted it, thus restoring a pre-10/7 peace agenda;
3) Increase their overall security dependency on US and Israel, thus shifting some of their "hand" in the region to us;
4) Standard Trumpism 101: Make them active participants in their own security arrangements, just like what he's doing with the EU and Pacific countries (no more America carrying all the weight).
The MOU itself creates conditions by which Iran becomes agentic in this. If they behave (they won't), they get rewarded, which they actually want, bigly. If they misuse that (everyone expects they will), they get a well-deserved stick. Everyone in the region feels this fear and is vigilant about it. If they misbehave (they will), they bring hellfire on themselves. This breaks the strangest force in the known universe: responsibility never sticks to a Muslim who behaved badly, never.
It's very high-risk, but this is a very high-stakes game, one of the highest in decades. The fears people have are real and justified, but Trump's got them priced in, I think. He knows he holds cards (B-2s, specifically) that let him adjust later if things don't work right, and by the number of times he's said so in the last 36 hours, I think he's well aware he'll be playing those cards at least sometimes. Tough shit for Iran.
I think we need to stop freaking out and let this develop. We need to see how it cooks and how the chef does with it.
Plus, I think he just hosed JD, and that's alright too.
🚨 NOW: President Trump SIGNED the Iran deal and it provides for DESTROYING enriched uranium, toll-free Strait of Hormuz transit, NO nuclear weapons for Iran, and Iran can get financial benefits like fewer sanctions or 3rd party investments if they behave
Trump is trying to save ALL future presidents from having to deal with it again! Pray for peace! 🇺🇸

The time for your bullshit is long past.
Mass immigration makes Americans poorer.
Fraudsters stealing our money make Americans poorer.
Suicidal green energy policies make Americans poorer.
Heavy regulatory burdens make Americans poorer.
You know what doesn't? Elon Musk being a trillionaire.
For those claiming this is appeasement, let’s get serious.
Operation Midnight Hammer wasn’t appeasement.
Destroying Iran’s military capabilities wasn’t appeasement.
Crippling Iran’s nuclear ambitions wasn’t appeasement.
Restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz wasn’t appeasement.
Appeasement is paying off aggressors and hoping for the best.
President Trump did the opposite.
He demonstrated strength, imposed consequences, and then secured a deal from a position of overwhelming leverage.
And let’s not forget: this outcome wasn’t built overnight. It was years in the making.
This is the same President who delivered the Abraham Accords, moved the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, and squeezed the Iranian regime so hard they struggled to fund their terror network.
The goal was never endless war.
We could have dropped bombs for weeks, months, or years.
The goal was PEACE.
But peace only lasts when our enemies know America is strong, our allies know America is reliable, and the world knows our President is willing to act.
The war with Iran parallels the Barbary Wars.
We launched the First Barbary War to end the payment of tribute and ransom to the Islamic states -- and the treaty that ended it, later viewed as a victory, still paid ransom.
It was only the Second Barbary War that settled things.
My gut (and interactions with right-leaning normals) tells me that most people are going to be fine with this deal (I want to destroy the mullahs, in case you wonder where I stand).
We hawks range from unhappy to enraged, but normal people don’t really care as much. And with oil prices down and the stock market up, this position is significantly better for Trump in the midterms. Note that the Democrats have been losing ground in the polls.
Trump may be calculating (correctly) that he could lose some support among hawks who just sit out the midterme, but most will realize they have no alternative but to keep supporting him because the Democrats are absolutely insanely evil. Any hawks he loses is going to be massively outweighed by normals he doesn’t lose by kicking this can down the road.
You can call it a cope, but I think this may be a net plus for Trump politically. I’m not sure the American people are willing to pay the price required to do what I think needs to be done, which is to annihilate our enemy.
Anyone who says that the gang rape of 250,000 underage girls is a “price that has to be paid” so that we can have kebabs and other “multicultural” foods should seriously just be thrown out of civil society.
Rape gangs are not some kind of aberration. Ask any combat veteran what they saw in Afghanistan. The sexual torture and slavery of children is utterly commonplace in Muslim countries. It’s part of their “culture.” Which is why it’s suicidal to import that culture into the west.
The next major attack on America won't necessarily come from missiles or fighter jets—it could come from drones.
For years, the threat was ignored. Now the Trump Administration has gone from zero to a national counter-drone strategy, operator training, and a federal drone defense school in just months.
The threat is real. The time to act is now.
I joined @dbongino to discuss this very serious threat and MUCH more!

Re: the Iran deal -- conservatives were skeptical of Reagan negotiating with Gorbachev, and it took years (after Reagan's presidency) for the USSR to fall. But fall it did, because of U.S. military strength and Soviet economic weakness. We need humility in evaluating the unknown.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparked massive Muslim outrage by exposing the Nazi roots of the Palestinian cause.
Both the Nazis and Hamas jihadists seek to create “a world without Jews.”
Our inquiry report proves that without doubt there is an undeniable link between religion and the rape gangs.
Islam.
As a country, we need to find the courage to finally say so.
Actually @TheModerateCase, it's accurate.
The first President of the United States, George Washington, attributed the Exodus to Israel as inspiration to take on the British empire and establish a new nation. As Washington wrote on June 14, 1789 to the Hebrew Congregation in Savannah, Georgia:
“May the same wonder-working Deity; who long since delivering the Hebrews from their Egyptian Oppressors planted them in the promised land- whose providential agency has lately been conspicuous in establishing these United States as an independent nation - still continue to water them with the dews of Heaven and to make the inhabitants of every denomination participate in the temporal and spiritual blessings of that people whose God is Jehovah.”
Further, when the Great Seal of the U.S. was being proposed, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson suggested it be an image of Moses parting the Red Sea and leading his people to the Promised Land (Israel):
“Moses standing on the Shore, and extending his Hand over the Sea, thereby causing the same to overwhelm Pharoah who is sitting in an open Chariot, a Crown on his Head and a Sword in his hand. Rays from a Pillar of Fire in the Clouds reaching to Moses, to express that he acts by Command of the Deity.”
A marble portrait of Moses hangs in the U.S. House Chamber in the U.S. Capitol. Streets in Israel are named after Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. There is a park dedicated to the Liberty Bell in Jerusalem.
