New lab work out: Decoding Nonconscious Thought Representations during Successful Thought Suppression https://t.co/zoatre7FDN and this: https://t.co/UQxYKEdtup @UNSWScience@FMLabUNSW Could this be unconscious imagery?
Why is it so hard to control our thoughts? 🤔💭
Suppressed thoughts could be hiding in the visual part of our brains – without us even knowing, shows new research by @UNSW's Dr Roger Koenig-Robert and @ProfJoelPearson, @FMLabUNSW. https://t.co/LtAJku6HDv
We’re all having to find ways of coping with the life changes at the moment. If you’re looking for some evidence-based strategies to help you better manage the #ambiguity we’re currently facing, check out this article from our very own @AskAnnaliese.
To help make space for all unique styles of coping during this challenging time, I'm sharing 4 tools that I use to help me deal with ambiguous, stressful situations.
I encourage you to share your fave tools as well💞 #StrongerTogether https://t.co/nijB4Qc8y4
So proud of our neuroscience honours student @LachlanKay1612 for winning the Paxinos and Watson prize for his thesis: Pupillary Response as a Measure of Visual Imagery and Aphantasia! Very well deserved! 🧠🎊🍾

Understanding why we hold the beliefs and attitudes we do can help us shift them - so take a historical dive and discover some clues as to why many people believe they are incapable of #creativity.
The latest pre-print from the lab w/ @ProfJoelPearson and Roger Koenig-Robert found that 'suppressed' thoughts can still be detected in the brain, even when participants report they successfully suppressed the thought! Read below:

Lab director @ProfJoelPearson will be speaking @FestOfDanger on 'The Consciousness Lie'...
What if we have tricked ourselves into believing we make our own decisions, rather than our subconscious urges driving our lives? How much control do we actually have?

This week I finished up my job at @FMLabUNSW to work full-time with @deborahhodotcom on @littlelitco . Because gender stereotypes in children's toys, books and games is still a problem, and it's high time it isn't.
Listening to Mozart does not make you smarter!
New blog by lab intern Victor Bian explains how the long-standing #myth that listening to Mozart makes you smarter came about... (1/2)

My brain has a little quirk called #aphantasia and today, during my day job @FMLabUNSW , I had my brain scanned with @Becca_Keogh_PhD. People think that you need mental imagery to be 'creative', and that without it I have no #imagination- which isn't quite true 1/2
Some of these roadblocks include #groupthink, fear of evaluation and other common cognitive biases such as #anchoring, where the first idea shared constrains all future trains of thought.
