Friends of Basra Museum is a UK-based charity which was set up in 2010 to provide financial, project management and curatorial support to the Basrah Museum.
@Alii_iii’s photographs capture the stillness and excitement, the power and the beauty at the opening of the Basrah Museum. A wonderful portfolio of images.
Moving and heartfelt tributes for our trustee and friend Lamia Al Gailani Werr. She is much missed but her spirit lives on in her many, many achievements and the countless people she inspired.
Congratulations to Basra Museum on the opening of new galleries dedicated to Babylonian, Sumerian and Assyrian antiquities. Iraq’s museums play a fundamental role in preserving our shared heritage and facilitating dialogue and understanding between our diverse communities.
Lamia Al Gailani Werr was in all of our hearts at the opening of the new galleries at the Basrah Museum yesterday. As John Curtis said, ‘her contribution will not be forgotten’.
Really great news via @AFP. Basra & Basrawis deserve more.
Between 2,000 & 2,500 pieces went on display in the #Basra Museum, the second largest in Iraq. They date from 6000 BC to 1500 AD to the Assyrian, Babylonian and Sumerian periods. #Archaeology
