What I've been up to past few years:
๐ค sold my first company
๐ง tasted corporate life for a bit
๐ grew @gummy_search to 40k MRR
๐ฌ had to shut it down for legal reasons
๐ฃ had my first kid (want many more now)
๐ took some time off to recharge
Now I'm back to building again!
- Reviving @thehiveindex with the help of AI agents
- Launching a short form video insights tool soon
- Cooking up something new for AI SaaS builders
As always, grateful to be part of this supportive community, and the gift to build internet companies for fun & profit
@rrmdp@aibuiltgames Google ads print pennies. I've had better results with native ads, site sponsors, and featured listings. You think that would work here?
I've been in the community business for a while, but have never run one till now
Started a discord for people building programmatic SEO websites. If you're building content sites at scale or want to start down this path, DM me and I'll send you an invite!
@HitLambaAI 100%. I keep saying this but am shocked how impatient some people are and try to index 10k+ pages from the start
In the grand scheme of things rolling that out over a month but ensuring you do it right is a worthwhile investment. Much better than having to fix after tanking
Are you working on a new programmatic SEO project?
I'm looking to mentor a few folks that are looking for guidance on best practices, tools, workflows, indexing, etc
For context, I run several pSEO sites, pulling in over 500k organic clicks/yr. Plus I'm always experimenting with new formats for SEO/GEO these days
Not asking for anything in return besides insight into how you think about it, as I'm be building something in this space soon
If this is you, DM me!
You could send all and pray to the indexing gods. Depending on the content it could work
I typically roll out over 2 months. First week put 10 core urls in sitemap, second 100, then 1k then 10k and so on. Each week fix indexing issues if they exist. Move onto next batch if 50% of pages are getting indexed
This way requires a bit more patience but IMO better to control rollout than have to roll back
Also those limits are on sitemap, pages still exist on the site, just not using crawl budget. Good way to learn:
1. Of submitted pages, which templates are high quality and which are not
2. If non-submitted, which ones are found and deeper to be useful automatically
10 best moves I made for the @thehiveindex directory:
1. Thought-out internal linking from the start
2. Knowing which pages to spend crawl budget on
3. Making it fast, helpful to users, easy UX
4. Adding traffic stats to every page, detailed quotable reports for some
5. Experimenting with many monetization methods
6. Making it easy for agents to recommend the site to community owners
7. Thoughtfully giving external links with high DR, now sales leads come to me
8. Choosing freemium model
9. Collecting unique data (reviews) that no other site has
10. Automating data collection so its 99% on autopilot
It's so variable, depends on the project. The project-specific questions to ask regarding monetization are:
1. What's the value of a referral to the SaaS/app/directory/resource/etc
2. Is the programmatic page getting traffic that is relevant and converts well to paid
Many folks just get traffic because it's nice to see numbers go up. But often times it doesn't lead to revenue so is questionable if the effort is worth it
@kaitrenbath Nice! Place you're at is the most key IMO. The data you choose, and how you analyze/enrich it to make it valuable, is what will determine how well it gets indexed, ranked, and cited by others
@k3_abhi I've done pSEO on saas sites which can work if the search query intent aligns with the service
But for directories I get much better results with paid listings and site sponsorships rather than display ads
@AIAgencyFWork Sounds like a content quality issue! Just because Google indexed your pages doesn't mean it will keep them. That's why I suggest rolling out your sitemap gradually, to ensure your most important pages get indexed first and stay that way
