Government of Karnataka Charts a Clear Roadmap for Quantum City Vision
The Government of Karnataka is taking a decisive step to position the state as a global leader in quantum technologies. A dedicated 13-member high-level task force is being constituted to steer the Quantum City vision, with the objective of formally operationalising it by the end of December.
Anchored under Karnataka’s ambitious Quantum Mission, the task force will function as a cross-sectoral vision group, bringing together representatives from government, academia, industry, and research institutions. The focus is to ensure a cohesive, industry-friendly innovation ecosystem that accelerates policy execution, talent development, and global partnerships.
The task force will comprise senior government officials, experts from premier institutions such as IISc and Raman Research Institute, industry leaders, startup ecosystem representatives, and research institutions. This balanced composition reflects the government’s commitment to collaborative governance and outcome-driven policymaking.
Key priorities include:
• Designing enabling policies and incentives
• Strengthening skilling and talent pipelines
• Creating world-class infrastructure and testbeds
• Supporting startups and industry enablement
• Building strong international collaborations
• Establishing standards, IP frameworks, and security benchmarks
• Defining and monitoring key performance indicators
The task force will also identify phase-wise priority areas for Quantum City — spanning quantum computing, advanced materials, international networking, manufacturing ecosystems, and large-scale outreach programs. Special emphasis will be placed on developing a domestic materials and manufacturing base, addressing current gaps where India relies on imports.
