Trust is at an all-time low on socials these days.
You've probably felt it...
Here are a few simple things that can make you stand out, and can help you BUILD trust rather than ERODE trust:
--
The right message gets replies, deals, and momentum.
But here’s the problem...
Most people send DMs like that LOSE trust, not build it.
Here’s a simple 3-step framework to write DMs that actually get responses.
Step 1: Research Before You Reach
Take 2 minutes to scan their:
Headline (what they do)
Featured section (what they promote)
Recent posts (what they care about)
Find a reason to reach out—don’t just blast your pitch.
Here is an interesting LinkedIn article on this topic (I don’t endorse everything in here but it’s a great jumpoff point to go deeper on outreach)
Step 2: Use the 3-Part Message Formula
1. Context – Why you’re reaching out
2. Compliment – What you liked about them (genuine + specific)
3. Conversation – A soft ask or open-ended question
Example:
“Hey Sarah, came across your post on building remote teams. Loved your take on async culture.
I’m working on something similar for a few DTC brands, curious how you handle team alignment week to week?”
Simple. Personal. Easy to respond to.
Step 3: Follow Up the Right Way
Most replies happen after the second message.
But don’t be annoying, be helpful. Like, genuinely provide value.
Follow-up idea (2–3 days later):
“Totally understand if now’s not the right time.
Thought you might enjoy this post we wrote on remote hiring systems, happy to send it over.”
Still no reply?
‘Move on.
Keep building the relationship with content + comments.
Good outreach isn’t about closing, it’s about starting conversations.
DMs are just handshakes.
Don’t pitch.
CONNECT.
It's easy to think that the online world is endless, but truth is, it's smaller than many realize.
Prioritize relationship-building and think long-term.
