Taking people to court for cleaning a river?!
Bureaucratic nonsense.
Millions of nature-loving Brits are our greatest asset in restoring the environment.
We’re far too quick to punish people doing the right thing.
And far too slow to empower communities to make things better.
Finland's strategy of building entire apartment blocks for formerly homeless individuals as part of its "Housing First" model has been highly successful, contributing to the near-elimination of homelessness in the country.
This came with the creation of apartment blocks specifically designed for homeless individuals. These complexes come with private rooms, mental-health support, job assistance, and social workers on site — helping people stabilize their lives before anything else.
The rent automatically adjusts to income, meaning no one is ever priced out again. This approach has already helped Finland achieve the lowest homelessness rate in Europe, proving that stable housing creates a foundation for employment, recovery, and long-term independence.
Here’s the latest example of ugly architecture in Cheltenham. This new terrace sits in a conservation area between a Grade II* terrace and a very fine Grade II square. Even AI can’t polish this one up!
Thames Water has already run out of money. Due to “funding constraints”, they do not apparently have the money to fix the illegal outfalls pouring billions of litres a year of raw sewage into my river before 2030.
A business that is so short on cash that it can only continue operating by breaking the law is called at best bankrupt, & at worst serious organised crime.

“Things are going to get worse… Unless we act within ten years we are in real trouble…
This is the new extinction.”

UK mainstream media is captured.
"Journalists" lack intellect, experience or awareness +are self-reinforcing indoctrinated victims of their own misinformation & prejudices.
Incessant updating +selectivity steer narratives, maintain group-think, +hide what's actually going on.
Proof that felling a thousand plus mature trees for a gigantic, greenwashed warehouse and lorry park with the mitigation being the planting of over a thousand whips and saplings to create a “country park” doesn’t work!
@SEGRO_plc it’s a disaster isn’t it?

Paul Powlesland says the water companies have a direct incentive to sweat the assets.
Why upgrade infrastructure if the fine or cleanup is cheaper than fixing the problem?
Pollute. Pay. Carry on.

This is doing the rounds this week on socials. It may well be amazing to run cost wise but my god it’s awful. Monolithic, bland and quite frankly depressing. If you don’t think policy affects design then think again. Architecture should lift the soul not crush it.
@AaronBastani This is not an isolated incident. The waste of resources I’ve witnessed at a local level on my river is shocking. Across the country, it’s likely we’re wasting hundreds of millions, possibly billions, on utter unimaginative crap like this.
The people spoke, their local council ignored them. Shameful.
➡️ Before / after
In Dec 2025 a remarkable 9-day occupation of the humble 1950s Sheringham Bus Shelter thwarted an attempted demolition by Norfolk County Council. The protest attracted nationwide media attention - from The Guardian and Daily Telegraph to BBC News and Have I Got News For You - drew support from the Prime Minister, and was recognised with C20’s inaugural Activist of the Year Award.
Yesterday, their beloved streamline moderne shelter and its railway mural was unceremoniously flattened in under an hour.
There are, quite clearly, more important things going on in the world right now. Yet this modest piece of modern heritage really meant something to people.
Big companies have an army of lobbyists to represent their interests to politicians, so why can’t every river have lobbyists too?
I’m at City Hall today to speak on behalf of the River Roding & put forward the river’s rights & interests to the Deputy Mayor of London for the Environment.
I’m also here to explain why grassroots local river guardians are vital to delivering the Mayor’s promises on clean & healthy rivers. With our detailed local knowledge & boundless energy to care for the rivers we love, river guardians can achieve more than government agencies or big river charities if they are given just a small amount of political & regulatory support & funding.
Wish me luck!
Bryce Dallas Howard has shared a video of the late Sam Neill singing “Blackbird” with Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern.
“Sam had an immense passion for life. Generous with his wine, his stories, his time. One of the most unassumingly attractive and magnetic people I've ever met.”
Better time could be spent planting hedgerows – the Committee for Climate Change requested 40% increase in town and countryside for carbon storage and biodiversity gain. How much official uptake was there in Greenwich after their declaration of climate emergency? #BanGlyphosate
💚 What an incredible day at Barking Carnival! 🎉🌍
Today, Noah the Planet had the absolute pleasure of meeting hundreds of amazing children and families, and once again we were reminded why this project means so much. Seeing the smiles, hugs, laughter, and excitement on every child's face as they met Noah was simply priceless. 💚
A huge thank you to UKON Careers for commissioning Noah the Planet and making his return to Barking Carnival possible. We are also incredibly grateful to Arts Council England for supporting creativity and community projects that inspire the next generation to care for our environment.
To every volunteer, member of staff, performer, parent, and everyone working behind the scenes—thank you. Your passion, energy, and dedication helped create a truly memorable day for our community.
Every conversation, every banner, every smile, and every child who pledged to care for our parks, rivers, and streets brings us one step closer to a cleaner, greener future.
Together, we are growing a new generation of Arktivists—young people who understand that small actions can make a big difference.
Because there is No Other Planet. 🌍💚

Taking the view that the UK shouldn’t cut emissions due to us contributing a tiny share of the global total is the basis of a global suicide pact. We either do this across the world, together, or face the collapse of civilisation.
@TonyJuniper Same applies when we remain silent about developers at Barking Riverside, where doubling the amount of lucrative high-rise apartments is going to impact on one of London’s most important ‘Sites of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation’ SMIs along the River Thames
