In #BJP-ruled Hindu-majority #India, under the grip of Hindutva ideology, such portrayals are not accidental. They are a deliberate tactic by right-wing Hindu outfits to cast the Muslim minority as perpetual villains and whip up anti-Muslim hatred across the country. Since the BJP came to power in West Bengal around three months ago, Muslims have faced a rising tide of hate attacks from the Hindu right-wing groups

In any society that still pretends to be civilised, the police would have arrested the organisers of this openly communal, anti-Muslim spectacle—or it would never have been permitted in the first place. Instead, under the prevailing #Hindutva climate, such hate performances pass unchallenged in India’s BJP-ruled states.

The SAI is the apex national sports body under the India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The conclusion is inescapable: this event, staged on government premises to spread hatred against Muslims, was either organised or sponsored by the government of India itself. What kind of national government orchestrates or bankrolls propaganda designed to demonise its own minority community?

And yet, whenever the systematic attacks on Muslims are raised, #NarendraModi and his officials indignantly insist that Muslims in India face no discrimination whatsoever.
