@Benny_Bubbles Most importantly, the 5e standard of fantasy doesnt really exist outside of its aesthetic style, even modern fantasy books tend to be more grounded than their 80s counterparts, while old school dnd and fantasy referred back to the books (and movies) that made the aesthetic.
100% love generic fantasy in the old school dnd or lotr or so style of way. I dont like the kitchen sink warcraft-diablo esque fantasy that has become "generic" fantasy, solely due to dnd 5e.
Is it just me who really doesn't mind generic fantasy? Like to an extent I find it really endearing. Might juts be nostalgia from when I was younger and I was VERY MUCH SO into generic fantasy stuff but I've just never found myself minding it that much.
@Benny_Bubbles Its also aesthetic, while both take creative liberties, old school is based on an element of historical armour, or historical paintings of even more historical armour, while 5es style is very... massive shoulder pads, and overly designed elements that look so LARPY.
@FeyArcana I meant it, in that, i dont mind warcrafts and diablos style for their respective properties, but 5e (and bg3) has introduced that style as a default of fantasy for many new people
@sys_crash Yeh i pretty much fully moved. I cant hack how angry this site was making me, and how i never saw any rpg content here anymore, even if i open it up now and again to see whats happening (like now)
Something that annoys me is when people have to have all their furniture pushed flat. Round of the corners please! Put a shelf diagonal, it looks so much better.
When I was saying this for years, they called me a bully and a charlatan. And now look.
Look at the cruel world ushered in by the nerds. Look at what theyβve done with tech, film, housing, sports, romance etc.
The nerds won, and we all lost so much because of it.
Everytime someone tries to give examples of 'video games as a serious medium for art' they always include an emberassing example that sinks the point they were trying to make
