In the wake of Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel, the world has again been reminded that antisemitism has not gone away. Jewish communities across the country and around the world continue to face this hate every single day – and that’s something we will never accept.
I have been contemplating what to post in regards to the atrocities occurring in Israel and feel this is appropriate.
This is a photo of me on a trip called March of the Living; a two week trip in which Jews from around the world spend the first week travelling through Poland visiting the unimaginable concentration and death camps that were used by the Nazis in an attempt to exterminate the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Here, I am sitting at a death camp called Treblinka, where Jews were sent to die. Nothing else.
The second week is spent in Israel, with the purpose of experiencing Jewish life in its most wonderful form. Eating falafel, swimming at the beach, and making new Jewish friends. It is beautiful.
To see the pure evil and animosity that once took place in Poland and across Europe now happening in Israel, a place that Jews alike are so proud of… a place we studied in school as kids… a place that is such a big part of who we are… it is just nauseating. To see “Gas the Jews” being chanted at rallies is unfathomable. It is dangerous. It is hate at the highest degree.
It is blatant anti-semitism.
Innocent people are being murdered and raped. Babies and children have been slaughtered. This is the lowest form of human existence. It is the purest kind of evil. It is unquestionably terrorism.
To our non-Jewish friends who have remained silent: know that your Jewish friends are hurting. A simple check-in text goes a long way because for a lot of us right now, being Jewish has never felt lonelier. To the ones who have spoken or reached out, you have no idea how greatly appreciated you are.
Most importantly, please, please keep the hostages in your hearts. Keep the soldiers who have, and continue putting their lives on the line in your hearts. They are heroes. Keep their families in your hearts. Keep their friends in your hearts.
Keep innocent Palestinians who did not ask for this in your hearts. They are hurting, too.
Keep Israel in your hearts.

We reduce patients to:
1. The illness- ‘the cancer patient’
2. The room number- ‘the guy in room 4’
3. The bed- ‘bed 6’
4. The stage - ‘palliative patient’
While we argue that this reduces confusion, it also dehumanizes the care.
Keep the person whole.

Her cancer is grave.
Aware that she will die.
She begins the process of life review.
The cancer is not painful.
But her early life is painful.
She feels it all over again.
This is not treated with morphine.

Medical students must learn about all areas of medicine.
Except #Palliativecare.
Yet ALL doctors will need to care for ppl with progressive life-limiting illness.
THIS is the reason our ERs are full, ppl can’t be discharged from hospital & ppl receive futile care.

Being on the right side of things feels good, don't it?
@MsBehavior I was struggling last year and I started keeping my phone outside my bedroom and reading for 10-15 minutes every night. It helped a lot and I started getting through a lot of books! 🤷🏻♀️
The signals that a person has entered the last year of life are often missed.
The gift of time slips away behind the noise of healthcare.
An expected death turns into a sudden death.
The final chapter written by the healthcare system instead of the person.

Finished Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow by @gabriellezevin - pure gold. But it made me think about my Shakespeare days (I was a literature major before becoming a nurse)…
I think it was lost on 20-something me
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
I just finished this gift from @fi_mason
I have no words and only feelings of gratitude that the author shared this with the world. 💕 #36Hours#TalkingAboutDeath
