A grey and unsuccessful evening lave netting in the estuary, briefly lit up by a small gap in the clouds. (Not sure it’s right to call coming home feeling totally relaxed and at peace with the world - unsuccessful).
For those batty folk who have signed up to our Bat and Glow Worm Walk tonight, please dress for the weather and remember to bring a torch. The paths will be quite slippery up there so boots with a good grip are best! See you later bat friends!
Congratulations to @paulnicholls444 on his new book marking a 40 year career of photographing news stories across Gloucestershire. We are delighted to have him as the official photographer at Gloucester History Festival. https://t.co/Vb8WWagvE2 @drjaninaramirez@soglos
Fridays don’t start much better than this, lave netting in the Severn with @MattyH02 this morning and an unexpected visitor!
I’ve seen them cross before now but never when I’ve been fishing.
Glorious Gloucestershire.
The lave net fisheries are subject to a weekly close or fence time, no fishing is allowed between 1200 Sat - 0600 Mon, a frustrating start to the season 😩.
Still a fab late afternoon watching the sand ‘serve’ and spending an hour sat under my favourite tree.
DON'T FORGET! Join us at the top of the Hill tonight for the lighting of the beacon at 9.15pm to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. See you there!
Just one more tide before the Lave Net season opens, I wonder what adventures this season holds. Itching to get back on the sands, hopeful of seeing a fish or two.
Please take a moment and look at my favourite pictures from last year. The Severn estuary is a special place.
Apparently, @unitedutilities have pumped millions of litres of raw sewage into #Windermere
I’m so angry I literally don’t know whether to laugh, cry or despair. I’m boiling with emotions. It’s taken me two days to write this.
This was Windermere 20 years ago - at that time, #arcticchar we’re still present and here’s a shot of one of the fish that we caught (and released) while filming the #Rodrace
I simply can’t believe that people working for a company that willingly pollutes our most precious natural lake can turn up and say nothing or sleep at night.
Nothing short of jail will satisfy me with the perpetrators. You truly disgust me you loathsome animals. You are wiping out the work of millions of years of nature.
For a government to sit by, watch this happen and do nothing says everything. No government that loves its country would allow this to stand.
How did we get to fall this far? 🤬🤬🤬

Huge thanks to the anything but dull 'Severn Bores' who gave a fascinating talk on the Severn and its heritage.
Mike and Matt are committed to preserving the heritage of salmon and eel fishing and protecting it for future generations.
Excellent talk by @severnpiscator & @MattyH02 last night on heritage fishing on the Severn, and the future health of Sabrina and her fish stocks. Thanks to @forhill2022 for organising, and thanks to Mike & Matt for tearing themselves away from their beloved river for the evening!
Today's the day! Come and join us on the hill for Land Rover trips to the top for people who would normally not be able to manage the walk up.
11am-3.30pm but may be stopped at short notice if the weather is bad. Fingers crossed the rain stays away!
Calling fellow bat enthusiasts! Want to learn more about british bats? Our beginner friendly course covers everything from bat evolution to their current conservation status. Why not enhance your knowlegde and help protect your local bat populations! https://t.co/KwHUPpdBvA
Our Father's Day Landrover Trips to the top of the hill are still going ahead tomorrow from 11am. However, due to weather warnings, they will now finish at 2pm.
If conditions on the Hill become unsafe we may need to stop sooner.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
