Hello! This account tries to explain active transportation philosophy and concepts to non-advocates who may not be normally exposed to these ideas. If we quote you and re-explain what you wrote, that just means you provided a good example, not that we're explaining _to_ you.
A gentle reminder:
If you don't feel safe walking or biking...
If better facilities would make your life better...
You don't need to become a city planner.
You just need to tell your electeds what you want.
B/c when things don't happen,
It's b/c a few people said "no."
The rapid decline of walking commutes across the rural US might be the most underreported transport shift of the last 50 years. Many small towns/cities used to post walk modeshares in the 20s, thanks to walkable commercial cores and urbanized industry.
Yes, street trees are essential for a myriad of reasons (safety, shade, air & water quality, placemaking). Skinny travel lanes calm traffic & make room for people walking, cycling, & taking transit. Maximum block length & crossings make it easier to get to where you’re going.
Yes👇! We all know we should be more physically active. But we don't do it because the world around us makes it hard. You won't bike to work if the route is complicated or unsafe.
People choose healthy actions when the healthy choice is the easiest & most enjoyable option!
Minneapolis built 76 miles of bike lanes -- of all kinds -- from 2007-13.
Subsequent biking increases:
⬆️ 69% on protected bike lanes
⬆️ 26% on on-street bike lanes
⬆️ 10% on streets w/o lanes
Moral of the story: Build bike lanes, and protect them!

I’ll never forget the day my conservative father-in-law who has worked on Bay St his whole life + driven a massive SUV his whole life said “I support bike lanes because I want my daughter-in-law to be safe.” People you love ride bikes in the city. The city can be safe for all.
The Grand Forks/East Grand Forks MPO is looking for feedback on walking and cycling facilities. Please let them know what you think!
(even if you have sent feedback as part of another project)

3) We need to start designing AT lanes as viable commuter options and not as expensive, token pleasure paths. 28 up and downs across driveways on an "AT" section only on the west side is not faster, safer or more convenient for commuting by bike. https://t.co/LT6fmd1IkA
Happy World Bicycle Day! Biking can help you have increased cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength, and decreased stress levels. Celebrate World Bicycle day with us by heading to the Greenway, commuting to work, or going on a fun family bike ride! 🚲
@GrandForksCity is there a way to provide feedback or suggestions if the meeting can't be attended? Will there be dedicated funding and design for active transportation?
