Reading is so necessary. To understand other people's perspective and be invested in their stories makes your empathy grow. I think we all need empathy right now more than anything .
You need to understand that this is by design. Working-class people used to be shockingly literate. The rich and powerful have built a society where most folks are addicted to screens because mass literacy threatens them. They want you to be stupid. We resist them by reading.
With fewer and fewer people reading every year, it’s urgent that you read daily. I don’t care why you do it: because it’s good for you, good for the world, because of the joy & renewal it brings. I just need you to read. Your life will be immeasurably richer if you read.
“Why are folks getting dumber?” Because they don’t read. “Why aren’t men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?” Because they don’t read. “Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?” “Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?” Because they don’t read. Because they don’t read.
Letting tech people touch the arts has to be one of the worst mistakes humanity has made. They have such deep contempt for creativity, ownership, and shared experiences. Life itself is an enemy. They will strangle every industry to death to have each cough up an extra dollar.
The weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of the words I use, I just...know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence? Does anyone else experience that?
people AI generating pictures of themselves at art museums so they can post it on instagram instead of actually going to art museums……….big loser behavior. and i mean BIG big
