I keep getting asked why I picked Elphelt vs UMISHO at Frosty, so Iโll just explain here in a long message.
During winnerโs finals, my Leo was getting speed ran and I was having trouble getting anything started at all. If I want to win vs top level Sols, I feel like I have to play better than I was in that moment (I was playing overall good in top 8, but she was playing amazing + I was in the venue since 10 AM for Granblue top 96 and it was 11 PM by the time winner finals happened).
Iโve been playing Elphelt A LOT since she came out and I think Iโm quite good with her, so I decided it was worth trying out to stop her momentum. I hesitated in game 3 and she made a comeback, but I actually thought it was working so I continued to play Elphelt into grands.
Iโm not overly scared to try out different picks if I think my main wonโt work for whatever reason, I did the same exact thing at CEOtaku last year with Sin.
Obviously Elphelt isnโt as good as Sin, but I honestly think in a 3/5 set she is dangerous and can snowball hard (yes even vs DP characters) so she isnโt as bad as you would think in an actual tournament environment.
For me, confidence is everything and I just simply wasnโt confident on Leo vs Sol so I played Elphelt instead and felt more comfortable. If I didnโt have this mindset I donโt think I would have won CEOtaku, so Iโm going to continue to have it for the near future I think + continue to learn from more tournament experiences and evolve as a player. I hope this explains my thought process lol
