Taylor Swift turned a billionaire in 2023.
When I first saw the news, I was shocked!๐ฑ
A music star as big as her is only now turning a billionaire. Should she not have attained that status already with almost a cult-like following among her fans!?
Turns out Taylor is the first musician to become a billionaire solely based on the value of songs and performances, which might be a reason for her not attaining that billionaire status earlier.
Unlike other musicians like Rihanna who owe most of their net worth to business, Taylor made all of her net worth in music and song writing, an amazing feat in itself without question.
But had Taylor engaged in more business partnerships, she would have attained that status long ago.
The business world builds wealth like no other profession, celebrities are realising that and actively engaging in business partnerships and founding celebrity-led brands.
We had @ScottvdbergIC on @VC10X_ to talk all about celebrity-led brands and how celebrity's reach and connect with fans is a match made in heaven for business.

Roger Federer made 3X of what he made from his tennis career, because of a 3% stake in a footwear brand called 'On'
He has been an absolute legend of the game, and yet he made around $100 million from his tennis career.
In 2021, Federer struck a deal with Swiss athletic apparel company 'On' to help them with product development & marketing. He would get 3% stake in the company as part of the deal.
Today that 3% is worth $300 million, earning 3X of what he made from his entire tennis career.
Roger Federer has other big partnerships like Uniqlo, where he made another $300 million.
This @VC10X_ episode with @ScottvdbergIC will blow your mind in how celebrities create majority of their wealth away from their main profession, with business partnerships.

Princess @JahnaviKMewar is a big advocate for the International Investment Council.
She believes family offices should come together and use their collective power and influence to guide policy in a positive direction that's good for humanity.
This is needed to not allow nation states to determine policy solely based on their own interests, and often at the detriment of humanity.

Why did Adidas split up with Kanye West?
In 2013, Adidas had partnered with Kanye West to launch streetwear brand Yeezy.
It was a massive success resulting in $2 billion in annual revenue, which accounted for 7% of Adidas total revenue.
The partnership was one of the most successful sportswear tie-ups in history and the resulting Yeezy range went on to help make Kanye West a billionaire.
Despite the highly successful partnership, Adidas split up with Kanye West in 2022, ending the Yeezy brand altogether.
What happened exactly?
Kanye West made a series of antisemitic comments on social media in October 2022, Adidas announced it was ending the partnership, calling his remarks โunacceptable, hateful and dangerousโ, adding that it would โnot tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speechโ, as reported by The Guardian.
Ending the partnership in 2022 left Adidas with unwanted Yeezy stock worth some โฌ1.2bn including shoes and other goods.
Adidas has been selling its huge inventory of Yeezy products in batches and donating the proceeds to NGOs, including a foundation launched by the company itself in March to support anti-discrimination initiatives.
@ScottvdbergIC shares the story on @VC10X_ to explain the key person risk in celebrity-led brands.
