We’re one week out from the March 5 #CaliforniaPrimary. If you’re a San Bernardino County voter, here’s a thread to help you navigate what’s on your ballot. 🧵 👇 #InlandEmpire#PrimaryElection 🗳️
Wishing the best to colleague Mike Sprague @WhitReporter as he steps away from his keyboard to begin a new life chapter. "A man of unrivaled experience and commitment when it comes to the Whittier area and the San Gabriel Valley," said executive editor @fpine. @WhittierNews
If you don’t subscribe to our newspapers, here’s a cheap way to do so, online-only! (If all you ever read is my columns, and I write my usual 150 or so in a year, that’s less than 7 cents each. But surely you would read more of our stories than that.) https://t.co/H8SnCxfrND
Very proud of the series we put together for the 10-year anniversary of San Bernardino filing for bankruptcy. Glad we were able to tell this story in a fresh, engaging way. Great work all around by @SoCalNewsGroup on such an ambitious project.
Hey now, that's a happy surprise on this Wednesday! (Btw, doesn't the recall feel like it was three years ago?) Thanks to everyone who spoke to me for these stories, and to @immouch for edits. Pretty cool that we sandwiched this category! Link in 🧵 to the recognized stories.
A few days after publishing my first story on Bay Area COVID fines, a florist I profiled told me someone came into her shop and handed her $350 to cover her fine.
It’s an amazing feeling getting recognized for this work, but impact like that is what really keeps me coming back.
It is time for a WE HAVE LOTS OF JOURNALISM JOBS thread. You can come work with me and other great journalists at @SoCalNewsGroup where you can have fun and grow while serving SoCal residents. Here are some of the jobs we have open right now:
Congratulations to @chicagotribune and @BetterGov on the Pulitzer Prize for their fantastic work on "The Failures Before the Fires." Terrific reporting and great journalism.
“The Failures Before the Fires,” a collaboration between Cecilia Reyes of the Chicago Tribune and Madison Hopkins of the Better Government Association, has earned the Pulitzer Prize for local reporting. https://t.co/7PtcRYjEMs
This week is the 4th anniversary of Festival Pass. I started this little newsletter thinking that maybe people who read our #Coachella coverage might be interested in having it sent to them and reading about other festivals.@watcharaphotog's photo from 2017 topped the first one!
How serious is the new COVID wave? Worse than we know, it seems: 'Underreporting, driven by changes in testing behavior, lack of public interest and severely underfunded local public health departments, create a perfect storm of misleading case counts and hospitalizations.'
The regular reminder for would-be elected officials: When the registrar of voters asks for your contact information for journalists to use, it's not a trick. It's how we reach you to set up interviews, which you want, especially as a newcomer with no name recognition or money.
