@SWEETPAREID0LIA@GraviosLover There's been endless online safety guidance, talks and information for parents and children, but all of the exposure still happens. The rules help protect those without proper parenting or supervision which can't always be monitored or policed by those who enforce it.
@SWEETPAREID0LIA@GraviosLover I absolutely agree with both of you especially working in a school!
The reality is, it's just not happening. In my experience working with social care teams and in schools, it needs to be taken out of their hands and largely because of parenting issues
@SWEETPAREID0LIA For the sake of arguing any further (ironically on social media), protecting kids from harm will always trump IT literacy but even this is irrelevant, children don't use it for that and it's naive to even believe they do.
@SWEETPAREID0LIA Unfortunately there are not such mechanisms to safeguard them, I work in education, it's a continuous battle
- Parents can't control it
- The tech companies aren't doing enough
- The children don't know any different
- Schools are banning smart phones too and doing their bit
@SWEETPAREID0LIA We can still learn about it the same way we all did? (I am 30 and have had a mixed social media and play based childhood) What else can be implemented then? Are you forgetting there are people who are IT literate without social media?
They aren't banning the internet...
@SWEETPAREID0LIA It's not just grooming there's all sorts of safeguarding risks, mental health concerns, online comparisons and potential trauma/normalised to sexual behaviours.
What can possibly be your argument for keeping it other than it might be able to help with a social media career?
@SWEETPAREID0LIA@MCulshaw84@MrRoflWaffles No, the weird take is from you. He didn't say people didn't groomed outside of tech, he just mentioned this might have helped with online grooming.
If there was an idea to support people from getting groomed outside of tech, then we'd all be for that as well... Come on
@senfre_ Tell that to all the other parents who don't do it by choice, but those who also struggle with the boundaries due to child's their friends using it.
I am all for it but hopefully this helps in both situations above.
@Lawrinho Those who disagree choose not to care are ignorant or need further knowledge on some of the damage it causes. Not only from a learning perspective, but safety, bullying, mental wellbeing, trauma and life/body comparison perspective.
@Lawrinho We're now in the next generation of parents who almost grew up with social media.
They also don't have respect for those in power (Police, Teachers etc) and there is a huge power shift in social norms where the parents are as challenging as the kids on the apps. (I am 30 btw)
@90210rodeodrv@utdbrxy Wasn't about her agreed.
The original tweet was about childhood memories and references to the original nike ads. However, I don't remember there being someone who's made a sex tape to get famous walking around in nike adverts when I was a kid
