Final Stop GameStop: The Jig is Up
In Part 1, I outlined how he arrived on the scene – we had a talk in 2019 about GameStop and investing. The Chewy founder then made a big splash as an activist with a Form 13D filing later in 2020.
He has held on with the diamondest hands.
Ryan, the current Executive Chairman, CEO and owner of now about 9% of GameStop stock, ascended to this dual role in September 2023.
Let’s take a look at the business as it stands today.
Here I will introduce the Scion Analyst Template, in parts. This is a Microsoft Word template I put together for my wayward analysts early in 2006. The idea was to get everyone thinking my way about analyzing stocks.
I will now, as I would have in 2006, analyze GameStop stock by working through the template one section at a time.

@JustJake any plans to add horizontal autoscaling for replicas?
I’d love to be able to set a min and max replica count, and have my service automatically scale horizontally when needed based on relevant metrics.
Biggest blocker to me using Railway beyond side projects atm!
GREATEST. FINAL. EVER! 🤯
Ben Hunt hit a 40-metre field goal in the 94th minute for the Broncos to seal the most insane comeback win in finals history in golden point extra time...
HOW IT WENT DOWN 👉

I had a funny convo last week with the global practice head for board searches at a top exec search firm. They do ~400 public co board searches a year.
I told him how at GameStop, none of the board members or CEO are paid cash or equity.
He said, "So you grant options?"
I said, "No, the stock board members and the CEO get come from purchasing stock just like any other shareholder."
He said, "So you grant restricted stock units?"
I said, "No, we don't grant any equity and don't pay any cash. We believe this aligns our interest with shareholders."
He said, "What?!"
Out of the thousands of public co board searches his firm had done, they had never done one with no cash or equity comp - it blew his mind.
To my knowledge, only Berkshire Hathaway and GameStop have no comp for the board. If there are others, let me know.
This comp structure should be more common as it really does foster alignment with shareholders.
