I once posed a simple question to an @RSSorg functionary: what has been the RSS’s role in systematically debunking the so-called “atrocity literature” and challenging its underlying narrative?
He was absolutely blank.
That silence was more revealing than any answer could have been. If a narrative has been poisoning public discourse for decades, merely opposing it rhetorically is not enough. You need scholarship, documentation, counter-narratives and the intellectual confidence to dismantle it.
You cannot win a battle of narratives by simply complaining that the other side controls the narrative.
Delhi, 650 years ago:
India was under foreign Muslim rule and Sharia.
An old Brahmin decided to fight back.
He publicly performed Ghar Wapsi of thousands of Muslim men and women.
When this news came to Sultan Firoz Tughlaq, he offered two choices to the Brahman.
1) Islam.
2) Death by burning.
The Brahman chose death. He was burned to death in broad daylight. Even when his body was burning before his very eyes, he did not utter a cry. He had no fear and no regrets. Such was his dedication for the nation and dharma.
Today, the descendants of this Brahman are classified by Indian state as "oppressors" and systematically discriminated. Descendants of Firoz Shah, on the other hand, are classified as "oppressed" and given doles, freebies and reservations

Department of Expenditure had issued a clear and unequivocal advisory on how consultancies are to be awarded government contracts. In particular, it states that qualification criteria for government contracts should be commensurate to the project. Till now it was common for eligibility to be restricted through unnecessarily high turnover and payroll requirements that could only be met by a tiny club. This levels the playing field for Indian consultancies and new entrants.
THE LAST DAY OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA
4 July 1902. Belur Math.
Swami Vivekananda was only 39.
This is how his final day unfolded.
Early Morning
Swamiji woke early and went to the shrine.
He appeared unusually cheerful and well. He ate some fruit, drank milk and joked with his brother monks.
Around 8:30 am
He asked Swami Premananda to prepare his meditation seat.
He then asked to be left alone.
The doors and windows were closed. Swamiji meditated for nearly three hours.
11:00 am
He came out of meditation singing a song to Mother Kali.
As he walked in the courtyard, Premananda heard him say something extraordinary.
“If there were another Vivekananda, he would have understood what Vivekananda has done. And yet, how many Vivekanandas shall be born in time.”
Around Noon
Unlike many other days, Swamiji ate with the other monks.
He was hungry and ate heartily. After lunch he rested for barely fifteen minutes.
Then he got up.
“A monk should not sleep during the day. Come, let us study.”
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
For almost three hours, Swami Vivekananda taught Sanskrit grammar to the young Brahmacharins.
It was no solemn final class.
He joked, told stories and turned the lesson into an afternoon of laughter.
Nobody around him knew that their teacher had only a few hours left.
Late Afternoon
He drank warm milk and went for a long walk with Swami Premananda towards Belur market.
His health had been poor for months.
Yet that evening he walked without difficulty.
They discussed many things, including his dream of establishing a Vedic college.
Around 5:00 pm
He returned to the Math and sat beneath a mango tree near the Ganga.
He talked with the monks.
Later he asked for a cup of tea.
7:00 pm
The bell rang for evening worship.
Swamiji went upstairs to his room.
He asked for his rosary and told the attendant not to disturb him.
Then he began to meditate.
Around 7:45 pm
He called the attendant back.
He asked him to open the windows because he felt warm.
Swamiji lay down.
The rosary was still in his hand.
He asked the attendant to massage his feet.
And then came the final moments.
Around 9:10 pm
His breathing became deep.
His hand trembled.
He took another deep breath.
His head moved on the pillow.
And Swami Vivekananda was gone.
He had once said:
“I shall not live to be forty.”
He was 39 years, 5 months and 22 days old.
The next day his body was taken to the bank of the Ganga at Belur Math.
Sister Nivedita sat beside her Guru in grief.
His mother Bhuvaneswari Devi came to see her Naren for the last time.
Swami Vivekananda was cremated at the spot beside the Ganga that he himself had reportedly pointed out only days earlier.
[Just three days earlier, while walking with Swami Premananda on the grounds of Belur Math, Swamiji had pointed towards a particular spot beside the Ganga and said:
“When I give up the body, cremate it there.”]
Today the Swami Vivekananda Temple at Belur Math stands there.
He had also once said that leaving the body would not end his work.
He lived for only 39 years. But those 39 years were enough to awaken a civilisation.

7 months ago, she lost her father to a brain stroke. A bicycle mechanic who earned barely ₹300 a day, he raised his family in a mud house in a small village in Tripura. When a knee injury threatened Asmita’s career, he found the money to take her to Delhi for treatment.
Even as the family mourned, Asmita’s mother urged her daughter to return to training, believing that abandoning the dream would betray everything her father had sacrificed for.
She now stands on top of the Commonwealth Games podium with a gold medal around her neck.

Many look at a finished Western product (like a mature WhatsApp/X) & treat it as a static, perfect system, while looking at an Indian alternative as an isolated, flawed event.
In control systems engineering, no system can reach peak performance or stability w/o going through a continuous, iterative Closed-Loop Feedback loop. Silicon Valley products did not drop out of the sky perfectly formed. They spent a decade inside a massive, highly forgiving home market that acted as a positive validation loop.
When an Indian company tries to build a foundational alternative, parts of our own demographic act as an unfiltered noise vector rather than a correction filter. By trying to crash/ridicule/dismiss the product at version 1.0, they starve the engine of the operational data & evolutionary runway it needs to reach version 10.0. They demand a mature output while actively sabotaging the developmental cycle.
In ancient Indian logic (Nyaya), an argument must be rooted in valid validation (Pramana). The immediate tendency to look at a growing domestic product & declare "We can never build a global tech giant" is a textbook logical defect known as Asiddha (unproved premise), heavily driven by a colonial hangover.
Ancient logicians categorized this kind of lazy intellectualism as empty cynicism that confuses a temporary state of development with a permanent lack of capability.
We cannot mock a sapling for not yielding timber on day 1, while proudly importing wood from an older forest. If we want our own Google/X/WhatsApp, our mindset must shift from being cynical consumers to being active stakeholders in our own technological ecosystem. After 79 years of independence, India has finally built its first homemade MRI machine.
Bengaluru startup VoxelGrids, backed by Zoho, spent 12 years developing a fully indigenous 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner. It skips the costly liquid helium used in traditional machines, making it around 40% cheaper to build and far more energy efficient.
The scanner is already up and running at Chandrapur Cancer Care Foundation near Nagpur, helping cut India's heavy reliance on imported medical equipment from global giants.
With India having only about 5,000 MRI machines for its entire population, this breakthrough could mean faster, cheaper scans for smaller hospitals and rural areas in the years ahead.
A proud moment for homegrown innovation.
India is the absolute first to achieve this and every Indian should be extremely proud of how clever this is.
Let me explain what you are even looking at.
That video shows a freight train carrying shipping containers stacked two high, one box on top of another, running under live overhead electric wires.
Sounds simple. But it is not. No other country in the world has pulled this off. India is the only one.
Here is why it is so hard.
When you stack two containers on a wagon, the train becomes very tall. Around 7 metres. Normal electric train wires in India sit much lower, around 5.5 metres. So the two cannot share the same track. The train would smash straight into the wire.
That leaves you with a choice. Go electric and stack only one container. Or stack two containers and pull the train with a diesel engine.
The US, China, Canada and Australia all run double-stack trains. But they mostly do it with diesel, or on routes that were never electrified in the first place. Nobody bothered raising electric wires that high on old tracks.
India did both electric and double-stack together. That is the world first.
The reason India could do this is a decision from the early 2000s.
So, Indian Railways had a basic problem. Goods trains and passenger trains shared the same tracks. Passenger trains always get priority.
So freight trains crawled at 25 to 30 km/h. For a growing economy, moving goods that slowly is a major problem.
So we built separate tracks only for freight. No passenger trains allowed. These are the Dedicated Freight Corridors.
The government approved the project around 2006 and set up a company called DFCCIL to build two corridors.
The Western one runs from near Delhi to the port near Mumbai, around 1,500 km. The Eastern one runs from Punjab down to West Bengal, around 1,875 km.
Because they were building from zero, the engineers were not stuck with old bridges, old tunnels or old wire heights. They could decide the clearances themselves.
So they made a deliberate call to build the whole corridor tall enough for two stacked containers. And electrify it.
Then they had to solve two hard problems.
First, the wire. On a normal Indian line the wire hangs around 5.5 metres. On the freight corridor they raised it to about 7.5 metres. This is called high-rise OHE.
No railway in the world had run a regular freight wire that high before.
Second, the engine. If the wire is way up high, a normal loco cannot reach it. The arm on the roof that touches the wire, called the pantograph, would be too short.
So India needed a new locomotive. A taller reach. And enough power to drag thousands of tonnes.
This is why we built a new loco called the WAG-12.
It is a beast.
12,000 horsepower. Double the power of the old WAG-9 it replaced. It can haul trains over 6,000 tonnes, and up to 15,000 tonnes in some setups, at 100 km/h. That is roughly three times the old freight speed.
The WAG-12 has its own backstory. In November 2015, Indian Railways signed a deal worth about ₹19,604 crore, around 3.4 billion dollars, with the French company Alstom.
They built a new factory in Madhepura, Bihar. Indian Railways holds 26 percent, Alstom holds 74 percent. It was the largest foreign investment ever in Indian Railways.
Over time the factory reached close to 90 percent local manufacturing. So most of each loco is now made in India.
So, the government approved an infrastructure decision in the mid 2000s, then it got built over almost two decades by DFCCIL, Indian Railways and RDSO. The locomotive came through the Alstom joint venture.
The first double-stack train ran under high-rise wires in June 2020, from Palanpur and Botad in Gujarat. The corridor sections were opened in stages after that.
And finally, why only India can do this.
Three things stack up together.
One, broad gauge.
India runs on a wider track than most of the world, 1,676 mm. A wider track gives a bigger loading box. So India can run plain flat wagons with two containers on top. Many countries need special low well-cars to manage height, and those still do not fix the wire problem.
Two, the fresh corridor.
India built new track with no height limits baked in. Old networks in Europe and the US are full of low tunnels and bridges never meant for 7 metre trains. Rebuilding all of that is close to impossible and crazy expensive.
Three, the system.
The tall wire, the high-reach pantograph and the powerful WAG-12 were all designed to work together as one package. You cannot copy just one piece. You need the whole thing.
Put those three together and other railways simply cannot recreate it without rebuilding from scratch.
But the part I keep thinking about is that India approved this in 2006 and ran the first train in 2020.

We should set more ambitious targets, Dr. Singh said proudly in 2008.
And knowing that Dr. Singh is the world's greatest economist, the media would clap.
That's the power of narrative. BJP gets stuck in giving excuses and explanations for why trade deficit with China keeps growing. A great economist like Dr. Manmohan Singh was able to make it look almost like an achievement! And get lots and lots of praise for it...
