@DaveKeating I understand why the EU requires facial scans and fingerprints as I travel. But the technology is faulty. At BRU last week, 1/3 of 8 machines were not working and the working one took 5 minutes and multiple tries before failing to register me. I was sent through the normal line.
@TomWlost And member states are often the biggest obstacle to efforts to strengthen the single market, seeking to protect national economic actors and gold plating legislation. Every time I ask about capital markets union or its successors, I’m told German banks won’t allow it….
@ACEurope Glad to be part of this effort, laying out the possible consequences of two very different US administrations for our European partners. Kudos to @ACEurope for putting together a report that covers all the key issues in transatlantic relations.
What’s next for the EU’s political transition? @JornFleck and @FranBurwell unpack the list of Commissioners-designate, their portfolios and implications for the EU’s political agenda for an “on the ground” from Strasbourg episode of the #AtlanticDebrief. https://t.co/sGnluSp2vT
@nigelcory@ITIFdc Excellent report; this is exactly the type of US-EU cooperation that the TTC should pursue; cybersecurity labeling is going to affect all of our smart phones and other connected devices. Incompatible US and EU rules will create new trade barriers. @ACEurope
One lesson from this EUCO: Orban will hold the Council hostage, trading money for letting key decisions go through. Time to think again about #EU Article 7.
What did the EUCO summit mean for Ukraine? @JornFleck sits down with @FranBurwell to discuss the outcome of the EUCO summit and the decision to open accession negotiations with Ukraine. https://t.co/A81sDksloa
@IoanDragosT@ACEurope@brandobenifei Always a pleasure to discuss EU digital policy, and especially the AI Act with @IoanDragosT and @brandobenifei. As we learn more about this technology, it is clear that if we are to enjoy its benefits, there must be some rules.
The US-EUSummit on Friday comes at a very geopolitical moment. What must the US and #EU do to respond? Thoughts from myself and @GRiekeles: https://t.co/ITpfrbtdXY
Delighted to interview @brandobenifei on the EU #AIAct for @ACEurope's Atlantic Debrief. Expect steady progress in trilogue; some tough negotiations but there is a will to find consensus.

The #EU doesn’t need institutional reform before enlargement as much as it needs political will, including in member states tempted to use enlargement to achieve other ends. See my comments with those of great @AtlanticCouncil colleagues.

The EU #AIAct still has a way to go before becoming law, and then there will be the challenges of implementation. But the European Parliament vote shows that serious legislators can address this complex issue. A useful 🧵from @ACEurope 👇
Today, the European Parliament adopted its position on the 🇪🇺 AI Act—one of the first major efforts to regulate this rapidly evolving technology.

Always a pleasure to talk about the US-EU TTC, esp with @GRiekeles@byingridb Helena Fu @WhiteHouse & @rupertschlegelm. Looking for even more concrete (not just aspirational) convergence at TTC5 in late 2023.
“Generative #AI is one of the strongest areas where we can see #convergence between the EU and the US. The EU’s AI Act and the TTC are intersecting, but we still don’t know how far this convergence will go”, explains @FranBurwell, Distinguished Fellow @AtlanticCouncil.
Today the US-EU TTC continued support for Ukraine and revealed a strong convergence on digital — protecting children and helping researchers — and a new emphasis on decarbonizing the environment. But will business stakeholders be satisfied? https://t.co/F5NfWvvKWW @ACEurope
