Once again a great talk from Kevin Kelly. His vision of the "Mesh" sounded really similar to the Metaverse in Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash (read it if you haven't, my favorite book), in fact he even said "metaverse" a few minutes in.

The other thing with VR is if your surroundings are fictitious how do you move around that environment without bumping into physical walls in the real world? or walking into traffic? I'm sure it works well sitting down or in an airplane hangar but otherwise...

Students should have more financial and temporal flexibility to bounce around through different fields of study. The benefit is a better understanding of the path one wants to take while also racking up experience along the way.

As for the Horizon report, I'm fascinated and encouraged by the growth of microcredentialing. Four years is a long time to spend in undergrad and most degree programs are far from targeted.

Another aspect of microcredentialing I like is the scale. Bite-sized chunks of achievement make it easier for students to figure out what they "want to do with their lives." If learning is smaller, cheaper and faster it makes it easier to switch gears.

One positive that might come from that is perhaps advertisers will stop putting up billboards and signs in the physical world. That would be pretty cool, just take off your glasses and turn it off.

If EVERYTHING is connected in the "Mesh" as Kelly suggests, that means advertisers will be able to litter the digital landscape with advertisements that don't need to obey the laws of physics. I can picture the entire sky blotted out by a patchwork of dayglow images.

@SocialMediaCou3 the anonymity factor is huge. It's been a common theme this week, here and in the discussion board. In school I was way more likely to participate if the activity was anonymous.
