I don’t get much good from the internet these days, but as the father of two very young boys, this brought some light into my life tonight. Praise God for the miracle and goodness of life, and for those who celebrate it by living their lives to the fullest — like both of these young men right here. 🙏🏼
Excellent thread here that gives a good update on S.244 and the absolute chicanery happening behind closed doors in the SC senate right now, at the expense of bars, restaurants, clubs and VFW’s all across our state. Time to pass H.3497 and solve the Venue Crisis now!!
🧵1️⃣ Last week, SC Senator Goldfinch did what other senators wouldn’t—he requested the Senate fix the soaring insurance premiums hurting our restaurants and bars— a common-sense solution similar to unanimous House bill, H. 3497.
But when the moment came?
The Senators led by Big Insurance BLOCKED IT. They chose insurance lobbyists over SC businesses. ⬇️
@reform_ins_sc Really good intel being shared here that, if all true, should deeply concern the normal people of the SC electorate. For years we’ve heard “liquor liability must be fixed!” “Save bars and restaurants!” “We have a venue crisis!”
But when the fix came? SC senators ignored it. Why?
🍻Restaurants and Bars against S. 244!!
Big Insurance is telling you that S. 244 helps the restaurant industry—but Chris Fitz, owner of The Hollow, sees through the smoke and mirrors. This bill is nothing more than a massive giveaway to Big Insurance while doing NOTHING to lower our skyrocketing insurance rates.
Tell your state legislators: VOTE NO on S. 244
Wow. Amazing numbers — though I’m not surprised to see them. I mean this is really simple, in my mind — who actually has positive experiences with insurance companies being super fair to them? Who actually thinks insurance companies are on their side?
South Carolina Republicans agree with Trump: S. 244, the Big Insurance Bailout Bill, is a problem in search of a solution. Fresh, new polling tells the whole story. Take a look:
This is just too good — I couldn’t stop laughing hahaha. Feels like it was literally written for this S.244 fight…don’t miss the line at the end about who the real winners are when legislators decide to prioritize Big Corporate interests over constituents.
Nothing sums up S244 better than this clip.
Trial lawyers fight for everyday people to get the coverage they paid for—but insurance companies will do everything they can to avoid paying out. Stay to the end to see who the bill really benefits…the stockholders.
📢 We can’t let that happen. Tell your SC State Senator to VOTE NO on S.244 before it’s too late!

This is hilarious — and also has a surprising amount of truth to it. Especially the part about stockholders…key to understand is that publicly traded companies, including Berkshire Hathaway (parent owner of a large number of these major insurance companies), have a FIDUCIARY duty to return maximum profits possible to shareholders. The result is that any growth in profits from pro-Insurance state laws just turns into increases in profits to shareholders — NOT decreases in rates charged to state citizens. Look at Florida and Louisiana over the past 2-4 years in the wake of their so-called “tort reform” bills (identical in many aspects to S.244). Premiums have not gone down and, instead, have actually gone UP in most cases. And yet normal folks’ abilities to recover on their insurance policies when disaster strikes has gotten harder and harder.
tl;dr: Mr. Incredible nailed it as a trial lawyer.
@JustinBamberg nails it here — I haven’t heard of a single staffer, executive, or leader — of ANY insurance company — coming to SC to actually testify & give meaningful input into S.244 and related so-called “tort reform” — call these bills what they are: Big Insurance Bailouts.
Maybe it’s time elected officials stand UP TO the billion dollar insurance industry instead of tooting it up FOR THEM. 🤷🏽♂️ I’ve seen insurers burn everybody — on all sides, making billions in the process.
I got one daddy, and his name is Mr. Bamberg. I’m gonna fight back for the people of District 90 and this state. Period… Denying claims during natural disasters. Raising rates while growing record PROFITS off your money. Taking months to adjust claims for people who just want fair treatment.
The state required liquor liability. Billion dollar profit machines said S.C. and everyone living here, “kiss our ass.” Where I’m from, it don’t work like that. That’s mad disrespectful.
The only thing wrong with the system is insurance companies are NOT REGULATED here — they run this place, we all just live here. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
NOT A SINGLE INSURANCE EXECUTIVE has stepped FOOT in THE PEOPLES HOUSE, but all these pro-insurer bills are getting heard. I won’t ever consider voting for ANY pro-insurer legislation until the people in charge sit in front of us and give us the info on HOW they actually even calculate your rates.
Some state elected officials need to read “Invictus” by William Earnest Henley.
I absolutely agree with this conservative take on a deeply unconservative bill. Using 16 pages to push sweeping, omnibus changes when a page or two could have fixed bars and restaurants' issues is not "conservative," it's a Big Insurance bailout.

While SC families struggle, insurance giants rake in profits—AND want more power. S.244 rigs the system against small businesses & everyday people.
❌ Won’t lower your rates
❌ Won’t help small businesses
❌ Just a Big Insurance giveaway disguised as “tort reform”
Tell your State Senator: Stand with SC, not Big Insurance! VOTE NO on S.244!

@rgrikard Absolutely right. That speech — to an internal conference gathering of Big Insurance execs — tells folks all they need to know. Big Insurance are the ones playing political games, and at the detriment of everyday consumers.
Or maybe, just maybe, the campaign that focused on the citizenry and not massive woke corporations sees Senate Bill 244 for what it is… big insurance welfare and a bailout for billion dollar corporations. Liquor liability needs reform 100%, but Allstate doesn't need a handout.
