I never read too much into Luke and Flora's names until I watched this video and I just learned something that broke my brain.

Luke's surname 栾 (Luán) looks almost exactly like 恋 (liàn), which means "in love." The only difference is the bottom: 恋 has 心 (heart) and 栾 (Luan) has 木 (wood).
So his surname is basically LOVE WITH THE HEART MISSING.

BUT his first name 念 (Niàn) means to miss someone or think of someone. It has two parts which mean 今 (today) + 心 (heart). Whoever is on my heart today is someone I miss deeply. So the heart didn't disappear, it's just tucked into the name, the feeling he never says out loud

And Flora's name 尚之桃, the 桃 (táo) means peach blossom, and it also has 木 (wood) in it.
So the peach blossom is growing on this piece of wood.
Flora is literally growing on Luke.
Early spring, blossoms on a cold hard tree, all of it.
Even the title makes more sense now.

Whether the author planned every layer or not, the names tell the whole story: love without a heart, the heart he hid, and the blossom that grew on him until it showed.

I’m never recovering from this information

One of the things I wish the early spring had more episodes for, especially after flora gave birth, is how much their communication had developed.

When flora opened up about feeling insecure about her postpartum body and worrying that luan nian wouldn’t be attracted to her anymore, he didn’t just reassure her about her appearance. He told her that whenever something was bothering her, she should tell him instead of getting stuck in her own thoughts, because they would get through it together. He made it clear that her physical and mental well-being mattered more to him than anything else.

And knowing that he was genuinely worried about her experiencing postpartum depression makes that conversation even more important. He wanted her to stop hiding her worries and be open with him instead of dealing with everything alone.

then there was the whole money situation; we know flora is a bit sensitive when it comes to money because she’s very independent and doesn’t want to feel like she’s relying on him financially.

When she asked him to lend her one million for her company, he immediately said no, but it wasn’t because he didn’t want to help her. He wanted her to see his money as their family’s money, not something she had to borrow from him. He even showed her his officially registered will, where his assets were left to her and their daughter.

I think this is exactly what I wish we had more episodes for. we were finally seeing them open up to each other and communicate on a deeper level, but we barely got to see this version of them
