You have some colleagues who are barely hanging on. Theyโre just trying to keep their head above water. But you may not know which onesโฆ so I recommend being gracious with all of them.
And your students too.
As many schools return from Spring Break, create the culture you want to work & learn in. Every person has a responsibility & ability to influence & support. Look for ways to lighten the load, express gratitude & make fun. #trustteachers
School culture is not created by a mission statement on a wall, but it is created and lived out daily by everyone in the school working together, supporting each other, and dedicated to being their best.
@vincentdonofrio Someone explained this to me as people have different sized plates but everyone can feel like their plate is overflowing. I can handle a bigger plate than some, being stretched to the breaking point is always tough.
Thank you @FrancisHowell for protecting our PLC time. This allows our professional relationships to grow. We can experiment, analyze & collaborate. Improvement requires support & PLC makes us better. #trustteachers
@SkinnyLister So excited to see you tonight in Huntsville! Hope to hear "This is War" live! You helped me through tough times & i am so grateful! #skinnylister#inspired
Educational leaders, use the same formula for successful management of staff. Relationships, engaging learning & with freedom & trust, feedback is timely & growth focused. #trustteachers
Effective classroom management in a nutshellโฆ

Educational leaders, examine practices which demean, devalue or burden current employees. Prioritze your current workers already doing an awesome job over imaginary future employees. #trustteachers
Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!
Educational leaders, you have many responsibilities & your workload overflows. I get it. Remember how much power you have & use it to support, care & protect your educators. This requires focus but the investment is worth it. Push back on poor policies & practices. #trustteachers
Happy New Year! Thanks to @NewYorker & @stlpublicradio for an awesome story about change. 4 seasons or reasons for change:
1) hurt enough, have to
2) see enough, inspired to
3) learn enough, want to
4) receive enough, able to
Wishing you a wonderful 2023! #trustteachers
Education is not student centered, but it is relationship centered. Principals who build relationships with teachers will get their best & teachers who build relationships with students will get their best.
Itโs not just students who need Maslow. Teachers need:
1) feel safe / supported
2) emotional connection/ relationships
3) feel respected
4) attention/ appreciation
5) value within the team
6) Volition/ autonomy
7) innovation/ creativity
8) self care
