@CollinLi I generally find companies that offer less worse in culture and quality of talents, speaking of actual experience. There has to be very good reasons how a company attracts good talents with less pay/rem which is rare if we are talking about non career transition scenarios
@humpheryjenner@jiajie_xu1 Let's see if there are some coming through SA this year 😉 jokes I would note them down if I come across them. I do recall 20VC and other podcasters share the tool they use at times
The interview between @humpheryjenner and @jiajie_xu1 is very worth listening. It talked about angel's role in early stage start-ups. As a side note, I do think angel group as a structure (not micro VC syndicates) is ideal for both startups and the angel investors.
How do we drive innovation? What is the appropriate role of government? How important are #VC funds and angel investors?
I talked with Jiajie Xu (@jiajie_xu1 ) about that here...

Humans are social animals, not truth seekers. Throughout history, playing along often leads to good life, whereas speaking truth can result in serious repercussions. Many of the giants we see today were actually dissenters who created environments to express their truths. 🫡
Here's my conversation with @jeffbezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin. This is his first time doing a long-form conversation of this kind, and it was an epic one.
It's here on X in full & is up on YouTube, Spotify, and everywhere else.

Every single day ask three simple questions:
1. Who is our customer?
2. Is this message going to resonate with a top 1-2 problem for them?
3. Are we using a channel they use to reach them?
Religiously ask yourself the above to really drive focus.
Watching her interview, I cried more than once - the level of adversity she faced was unimaginable and yet she came out so optimistic and more importantly, great. This book will make a great companion for my incoming trip
@ChrisMinnsMP Hi Chris, your neighbour here in Kogarah. Just had a preDA meeting with @Georges_River regarding a secondary dwelling in my backyard - despite we complied with all DCP/LEP and got heritage support, the feedback was a firm no based on 'merit'. Speechless. Happy to pass on details
Start-up screening is always fun. My hell yes could be others' hell no and vice versa. Founders might be rejected at times feeling the ecosystem is dumb. In reality, if a person truly identifies something unique, not having many early believers is a feature, not a bug.
@HarryStebbings Do you think this also applies to investment? Would speaking to 10 references including current investors, customers and the team as part of the DD process help make a good investment decision?
Start-ups die when they can't raise. There are those that should die - they didn't earn the right to exist n their death is merely natural selection. What saddens me are the ones not having a fair go due to the business model requiring large upfront $ that mkt refused to provide
A new serendipity I discover about writing is that it improves the depth of network. When I meet new ppl through outbound reach or intros, some would mention that they read my blog articles - right away the vibe would start to change. Many remain my regular contacts afterwards.
@HarryStebbings The LP contents have been always so great, including the one with Hunter Somerville. There are a lot of depths to their knowledge! Wish more to come!
Loved it. I'm secretly spending most of my spare time on my passion (not 'start-up', not data science, not investment) and very few friends know about it. Might start sharing contents about it soon!
Just asked, what is my biggest advice to someone wanting to build a brand with content:
1. Focus on a very small niche. Get to 1,000 true fans.
2. Choose one platform that is your home. Do it based on passion not what is hot.
3. Discipline. Post same time, every time. Never give up. This is a game of who can survive the longest in content.
Question is, given our own problem is now solved, do we develop it further to solve it for people like us? The answer was no for our previous side project. Either way it is a fun journey so far! 😄
Bad news: a key platform no longer provides free API tier - it's min $500 p.m. going forward.
Good news: we successfully secured the top performing house meeting our criteria over the last 3M using the tool, with metrics way better than existing digital buyer agents' showcases.
For our side hustle this time we didn't think about building a 'startup' at all but building something we need. Surprisingly many in bound requests and even a business customer reached out and even want to buy our business. No tips matter more than building something people want
@CollinLi Yeah I did notice the same. I once thought the start-up ecosystem was all about possibilities but many people later, I realised it was highly gated and status oriented. The sense of fulfillment really just come down to authentically doing great things regardless of communities.
