When your adopted country is facing a serious national crisis, where does your loyalty lie?

The least you can do as an immigrant living in a country, especially one you now call home, is stand with that country when it matters most.

You can criticize the government, hate the unnecessary bureaucracy, complain about the taxes, housing, immigration system and every other problem.

Canada gave many of us something our home countries couldn’t, a chance to dream again, build a life, raise a family and imagine a future.

Yet I see immigrants publicly cheering for America against Canada, and honestly, it gets under my skin every single time.

And before anyone turns this into an African or “brown immigrant” conversation no.

I’m talking about everyone, African immigrants, Asian immigrants, European immigrants, everyone….

You don’t have to pretend Canada is perfect, but sometimes, patriotism means standing with the country that gave you a home, even when you disagree with the people running it.

I just hope some people eventually remember the difference between criticizing your government and rooting against your country.
