Free agent Jordan Clarkson has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the New York Knicks, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh tell ESPN.
Personal “conspiracy” theory:
I think at one of the low points of the season, it clicked for Brunson the kind of leadership KAT needed to bring out his team oriented best:
Friendship. Love.
It all came together when KAT & JB started acting like homies.
This wasn't on the broadcast:
During the commercial break before the trophy ceremony, as the Knicks gathered on stage, KAT & Brunson see each other for what looks like the first time since the buzzer:
Most painful loss of a Knicks players since......... ?
I felt it when we traded IQ. But it was for a championship level player (who I liked) in OG, so the sting was different.
Losing Oak stunk, but Camby made sense.
For Starks, we got Spree.
Is the list Ewing, Mitch, Lin?
Deuce McBride, Mo Diawara and Andre Drummond will count less than $9 million combined against the cap/apron next season.
That’s brilliant work on the margins for three rotation players
Crucial in today’s NBA / CBA
I’m a homer, but I don’t see how Lebron goes anywhere but the Knicks.
GSW & CLE aren’t contenders, even with him. MIA wouldn’t be either; and it would be too much of a super team narrative with GA.
In NY, he can win. Being on the repeat team in NYC would be the dopest coda.
If @KingJames comes to the @nyknicks, I expect him to say he wants to be the 6th man.
He's earned a low-key-but-high-upside last year.
He can chill in JB's locker room, his loud voice not needed.
He can beat up second units, and end every tight game on the court.
I don't think LeBron is going to the Knicks. I feel like most of the appeal was being the one to end the drought.
But hoooooo boy would it be a fun basketball fit. That starting lineup, without defenses ignoring Hart and with the system tweaks Brown made, scores infinity points.
@DJAceNBA My thinking too.
Also doesn't hurt that the team doesn't need a leader. Lebron can enjoy being in JB's locker room.
Plus the cinematic backdrop of NYC for the documentary he's making about it.
The Knicks still have the best starting lineup in the East and probably most depth still.
Get a solid backup center and I don’t see why the team we just watched in the playoffs still isn’t the favorite.
FWIW, as I wrote earlier this week, committing $15+ million annually to Mitchell Robinson is a risky/questionable investment.
Even if Mitch stays healthy (and remember, the Knicks had to carefully manage his workload all season), that's a steep price to pay for a player you can’t feel overly comfortable playing in the fourth quarter, let alone crunch time, of any important game.
Mitchell Robinson had iconic moments for the Knicks and was also unplayable, at times, against several opponents including SAS
I think NY’s refusal to go into the 2nd apron to keep him can age fine. Don’t think his limitations, or being cheap, were why they wouldn’t do it though
