In my experience, its main message has not sunk in half a century later, even among scientists: one often reads an ingenuous "adaptive explanation" of this or that trait (music, rituals, religion) as "bonding the group," without any awareness that this is not what the theory of natural selection is about or that it is in any way problematic.
