Took a break for a while because doing Lego with a sling became too hard. so some of these are older. Fun way to keep track of progress
Somehow, by some miracle, I have been able to consistently keep my thesis at just under 100,000 words. About to do 2 rounds of final mechanical reviews, a few minor adjustments. but currently the word count sits at 99,356.
this is why there is a difference between academic integrity and plagiarism. the latter is taking the thought and content of others and making it your own. the former is using tools in such a way that they do the work of thinking and content generation for you. both are wrong
Calling undisclosed LLM use "plagiarism" seems wrong to me. Prior to LLMs, we presumably thought plagiarism is bad because it's a form of theft: you are stealing credit for writing that some other human did. But taking LLM writing doesn't directly hurt any other human
it is the form that these take, and the personal character of the actions that make much of the difference.
as such, using tools to help with mechanical things (like basic spellcheck and grammar). when the tool forms your content, or portions of it, it ceases being your work.
