And it requires a good internet connection, which is rare exactly when people want to use it most traveling, on vacation, on the go.
@mwfowlie Do they use a third-party search engine? I would have thought that since they are already doing web crawling anyway, they would have started building or already implemented their own search engine.
@mwfowlie Card payments still run on ISO 8583, a binary format from 1987, sent over stateful TCP/IP links. Each country and payment use case adds its own quirks. It’s historically grown. Full specs are non-public, shared only between card networks and banks.
@DanielW_Kiwi Why not? How else are you going to process large batches? Do you want to load half the DB onto the app server/pods just to do a bit of logic there and insert it back into the DB afterwards?
