@BishopBarron This is very disappointing to hear from a bishop and catholic evangelist who has up until now maintained a reasoned and moderate political position.
@riecker To suggest that Reformation had no reforming impact on highly corrupt church is simply ignorant. The fact that your local parish celebrates the Mass in the vernacular is just one of the many long term reforms catalysed by the Reformation.
@hannahsbee your views on this podcast are shallow and expedient. If you want a "grown-up conversation" on SEND you need to start by recognising the huge complexity of the challenge and the profound vulnerability of the disabled children and families affected by it. #TimeToThink
@NewStatesman Please consider having someone from a leading charity or think tank in this area on any follow-up shows to balance the one dimensional views that especially Hannah was spouting. I would happily engage myself if you ask.
@NewStatesman I was deeply disturbed to hear the views on this podcast as a parent with a disabled child. For journalists to characterise the challenge of SEND reform as "Where's the money going to come from?" and "We need to have an adult conversation," is both ignorant and deeply harmful.
In the entire world, only one person went on TV and predicted that Cardinal Robert Prevost would be elected pope.
That person? @AustenI.
He told CBS on Tuesday, May 6, that Prevost would be the first American pope.
Two days later, he was.
The new pope has taken the name Leo XIV as a nod to Leo XIII - commonly understood to be the founder of catholic social teaching. We will hopefully see another papacy that stands with the most vulnerable and marginalised across the world.
The Popemobile will be turned into a health clinic for children in Gaza.
One of Pope Francis’s final wishes was for the car to be gifted to Gazans as a mobile treatment centre.
Now, it is to be re-fitted with equipment for diagnosis, examination and other medical treatments.
I am troubled by Trump.
But I’m even more troubled by the Christians who defend him.
Trump worships himself.
That is called idolatry.
He has made the seven deadly sins into a way of life. He has repeatedly mocked the fruits of the Spirit and the Sermon on the Mount.
I do hope that Donald Trump someday repents and comes to know Jesus as Lord… but this we can say for sure — he should not be Pope… or President.
Follow Jesus. Not Trump.
I went to the Senate floor to lay out for my colleagues the stunning story of brazen, open corruption during the first 6 weeks of the Trump presidency.
I think it's a story everyone needs to know.
1/ So a🧵with the highlights from the speech.
I keep thinking of the prophets - how fiercely they advocated for the most vulnerable people in their land, and how fearlessly they spoke truth to power. We all need that prophetic courage right now.
These are the words of Isaiah —
“Woe to those who make unjust laws,
to those who issue oppressive decrees to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?” -Isaiah 10
