For the past few months, the United States has invested heavily in Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf: removing his rivals, protecting him from elimination by Israel, shunning the opposition while praising him, sending senior U.S. officials to effectively anoint him as the country’s de facto leader, and offering him a highly favorable MoU. All in the hope that consolidating his power would produce the outcomes Washington wanted.

That investment has yielded little. Ghalibaf has failed to deliver. It is time to move on.

Statement Regarding Recent Social Media Clips from Prince Reza Pahlavi’s Reuters Interview:

Yesterday a short clip of Prince Reza Pahlavi’s recent hour-long interview with Reuters was shared on social media. In it, he refers to his strategy of seeking defections from the Islamic Republic to ensure a more peaceful transition. The clip was cut and shared out of context and does not reflect the entirety of the Prince’s position and defections strategy.

The Prince has always believed that criminal elements of the regime should face justice for their crimes but that those who wish to join the movement against the regime, be part of a peaceful transition, and help build Iran’s future, should be welcomed.

In June 2025, in order to streamline and professionalize this process the Prince announced the “National Cooperation” platform. The platform, monitored and managed by a team of technology, data, and security professionals, allowed for the processing of a far greater number and a more strenuous vetting of potential defectors. The platform was broadcast into Iran via the most-watched satellite broadcast in the country, Iran International.

In the months that followed, tens of thousands signed up for the platform from across Iran’s political, military, and bureaucratic institutions. Thousands were members of the armed forces. Others occupied positions in civil institutions. Among those were senior regime and military officials, verified by their national identification cards. Others were members of the armed forces who were later killed in the January 8th and 9th uprising. All were keen to break from the regime and support the national movement against it.

The “National Cooperation” platform has since been updated and improved and continues to engage potential defectors across the state apparatus. More information will be provided on this platform in the coming weeks.

This background gives relevant, additional context to the specific answer the Prince gave to a specific question, regarding an interview he gave in 2018, both of which are reflected below:

“QUESTION:

You've said in a 2018 interview on Iran International that you've had dialogues with members of the IRGC and the Basij. More recently, you've asked some of them to defect.

What exactly is your position on the IRGC?

PRINCE REZA PAHLAVI:
Again, that's a great question. Thank you for asking it, because a lot of things have to be clarified.

After the Green Movement, and closer to the time when the Woman, Life, Freedom movement began, I started receiving direct messages on social media from people saying, 'I'm a Basiji in Mashhad,' or, 'I'm a member of the IRGC in such and such place. We hate this regime. We're not with them. We're looking for an opportunity to break away,' and so on.

When I told the media that I was in touch with elements like that, it was in that context. It's not that I was talking to the IRGC command. Not at all.

But there were elements of the Basij, the Sepah, and of course the military as well, who would communicate with me discreetly, as a sign that this was their position...”

The Prince remains firm in his belief that the Islamic Republic will be defeated with national cooperation, national solidarity, and national unity bringing together Iranians of all backgrounds and will continue and expand his efforts to secure political and military defections from the criminal regime as a means to bring about the end of its reign of terror.

“Warning of the Imminent Execution of 12 Political Prisoners and Lion and Sun National Revolution Detainees in Isfahan.”

Erfan Esfandari, 18, and Gol-Mohammad Mohammadi, 23, an Afghan national, were executed today.

Both had been sentenced to death in connection with the “Alikhani Square” case in Isfahan and were among those arrested during the January 2026 Lion and Sun National Revolution.

In recent days, reports had emerged that those convicted in this case had been transferred to solitary confinement, raising grave concerns that their executions were imminent.

The reports that 12 political prisoners, including 10 people detained in connection with the January uprising, known as the Lion and Sun National Revolution, have been transferred from the general ward of Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan to solitary confinement, amid credible fears that they may soon be executed, are deeply alarming.

These developments suggest that the criminal regime of the Islamic Republic may once again be preparing to commit a grave and irreversible crime against the people of Iran.

We call on the international community, democratic governments, and human rights organizations to act with the utmost urgency and to use every available legal, diplomatic, and political means to prevent these irreversible acts of injustice.

The Islamic Republic must be held fully accountable for any harm inflicted on these political prisoners.

We also call on Iranians, human rights defenders, civil society leaders, political figures, and people of conscience around the world to amplify the voices of these prisoners and do everything within their power to help save their lives.

The use of the death penalty as an instrument of political repression is a flagrant violation of the most fundamental principles of human rights and justice.

Those who order or carry out unlawful executions should be under no illusion that impunity will last forever.

In a free and democratic Iran governed by the rule of law, those responsible will be held individually accountable before an independent judiciary, in accordance with due process.

The Islamic Republic’s reliance on executions to spread fear and silence freedom-seeking Iranians is not a sign of strength. It is evidence of a regime that has lost its legitimacy and now depends on terror for its survival.

The people of Iran have repeatedly demonstrated that they reject tyranny and aspire to a future founded on liberty, justice, and national dignity.

That future belongs to the Iranian nation.

A free Iran will be built on the rule of law, respect for human rights, and the equal rights and inherent dignity of every citizen.

Shapour Bastansiar, an Iranian composer and orchestra conductor, reflects on the journey that brought him, after 58 years in the arts and a complex political past, to Iran’s Lion and Sun National Revolution under the leadership of Prince Reza Pahlavi.

During their meeting, Bastansir spoke openly about his former association with the “National Council of Resistance”, an organisation affiliated with the MEK, and his eventual decision to distance himself from that movement.

After closely following Prince Reza Pahlavi’s speeches and positions, particularly his willingness to welcome those who previously opposed the Pahlavi family, Mr Bastansiar said he had come to see Iran’s national movement as an increasingly broad and inclusive coalition.

It is a movement capable of bringing together Iranians with different political histories, experiences, and talents around one shared objective: the liberation of Iran.

Prince Reza Pahlavi emphasized that people should not be judged solely by their past. What matters is what they are prepared to do today for Iran’s freedom.

He reaffirmed that the movement is open to all who embrace its core principles: Iran’s territorial integrity, the separation of religion and state, equality before the law, individual liberties, democracy, and the Iranian people’s right to choose their own future.

They also discussed the role of art, music, and Iranian artists in strengthening national unity and advancing the struggle for a free Iran.
