If as seems likely most people outsource their writing in future to LLMs it will be a terrible development not because the writing of LLMs is bad (it may improve in future) but because the point of writing is not just to express oneself but to actually discover what it is you really believe by undergoing a meditative process of reflecting and revising your ideas. This is completely different from thinking you know what you want to say at the outset and having a machine instantly produce it for you.

If you enjoyed the Autochrome of artist Claude Monet, which I shared with you in June, you may be interested to learn that I've found this new one of the great man, taken in 1917 by Étienne Clémentel in Monet's garden at Giverny.
I've given it a good clean-up for you! I have to say: for an artist renowned for his use of colour, he is dressed surprisingly drably! Nevertheless, this is a very rare colour shot of the great man. It was taken using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

The paper calls the shared pool of human expertise the "cognitive commons." Every profession drinks from it. Nobody's refilling it.

By eliminating junior roles, each company is acting totally rationally, and the collective result: a profession that can't catch AI's mistakes anymore because it never learned to do the work in the first place
