Victor Davis Hanson Brilliantly Explains Exactly Why Tucker Carlson Turned Rotten
He has planted himself alongside a group of former MAGA allies who appear determined to tear down President Trump, fracture the Republican coalition, and build something new in its place.
And Victor Davis Hanson just gave the clearest explanation I have heard yet for why it happened.
According to Axios, Carlson hosted Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, Joe Kent and others at his home in Maine shortly before unveiling a ten-point vision for America. The group discussed a new political movement and reportedly urged Carlson to consider a 2028 presidential run.
Carlson stopped short of formally launching a party or announcing a candidacy. But the manifesto followed his public promise to help build a third party, and he described his ten points as a foundation for whatever political order comes next.
The plan calls for fairness, sovereignty, productivity, beauty, health, honesty, optimism, wisdom, decency and unity. Beneath those labels are proposals involving border enforcement, American manufacturing, food and health policy, government transparency, foreign influence, immigration and military policy.
The White House answered by calling Carlson’s circle a collection of turncoats who overestimate their influence. President Trump, it said, remains the unquestioned leader of the Republican Party and the MAGA movement.
Here is Tucker presenting that manifesto: https://t.co/JFr0xZ9ga6
Hanson spotted the contradiction immediately: most of Tucker’s supposedly new agenda is already being advanced by President Trump.
Border security. Law and order.
Rebuilding American production. Cleaning up the food supply.
Challenging entrenched institutions. Rejecting DEI. Putting the country first.
So why try to destroy the one political coalition actually moving those ideas?
That is where Hanson cuts through all the noise.
He says the project is politically incoherent. If Tucker’s new party pulled votes from the Republican nominee in 2028, it would not usher in a purer version of America First.
It could hand power to the very Democrats who oppose nearly everything Tucker claims to want.
Hanson walks through the history. Theodore Roosevelt’s third-party run helped Woodrow Wilson win in 1912.
Ross Perot complicated Republican hopes in the 1990s. Ralph Nader’s Green Party run became part of the razor-thin math surrounding Florida in 2000.
The lesson is brutally simple: third parties rarely win the White House. They usually damage the major party closest to them.
But Hanson believes the real fuel here is personal grievance.
Tucker once had extraordinary access to President Trump. He traveled with him, spoke with him directly and enjoyed the kind of proximity to power almost nobody gets.
Then came the break over Iran and Israel.
Hanson’s theory is that all that access created a false sense of influence. Tucker apparently believed the president should take his call, accept his advice and change course.
When President Trump did not, political disagreement curdled into something much uglier.
And then there is Israel.
Hanson argues that anti-Israel hostility has become one of the faction’s organizing forces. In his view, the obsession has grown so consuming that it now overrides political math, gratitude, shared domestic priorities and the danger of returning the radical Left to power
In a transcript published by The Daily Signal, Hanson described Carlson’s political project as a potential spoiler operation. He said its most likely practical effect would be to hurt President Trump’s eventual successor in the 2028 election.
Hanson compared Carlson’s ten-point platform with the Trump Administration’s record and found the overwhelming majority of it already represented inside MAGA.
He pointed specifically to border enforcement, law and order, opposition to DEI and the food and health agenda led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
He then turned to the people gathered around Carlson. Hanson argued that several had once benefited from President Trump’s endorsements, access or appointments, but became bitter after political disagreements or personal setbacks.
Finally, Hanson said hostility toward Israel and antisemitic anger are helping bind the faction together. He warned that their project could damage the agenda they recently called essential while delivering power to opponents who reject almost all of it.
I think Hanson nailed it.
Tucker did not suddenly discover that President Trump was governing like Joe Biden. He did not uncover some massive domestic-policy betrayal that made the Democrats a better option.
He stopped getting his way.
And instead of using his enormous platform to argue his case while helping preserve the only viable America First coalition in the country, he now appears willing to burn that coalition down.
Call it what it is.
Ego dressed up as ideology.

🧵 On June 26, PA Gov. Josh Shapiro handed a vaccine manufacturer a $10.6M grant.
60 days later he stood in Lancaster County blaming RFK Jr. for two "measles-associated" deaths.
Nobody at the podium mentioned the money.

@TonemanLives The choice is clear, vote Red to save the Republic. We may have to hold our noses for some of them (my Jr. Senator from FL comes to mind), but the other side is insane from TDS.
The Democrats hate Trump. Their RINO friends hate Trump. The media hates Trump. There’s no denying that. All their hatred is spewed to their base and they hate Trump.
The one thing you never hear is why? Why all the hatred? Is it because he delivers on all his promises? Is it because he fights for the people and our country? Is it because he brought our military back to being the most respected in the world? Is it because he brought world leaders and businesses from across the globe and got them to invest trillions into our country? So then why the hate?
A better question is what have the Dems done? What have they done to make your lives better? What have they done to make you feel safer? What have they done to make this world a better place? What promises have they kept? What did they do to make your groceries cheaper? Last I looked we had record inflation under the Biden and the Dems. How about this one. What was their agenda?
How can they stand there for over a year now and tell you how bad Trump is when in fact they haven’t done a fucking thing for the American people and our country? Every day, every media outlet, every Democrat politician, every RINO start every sentence with Trump. They live, sleep, eat and dream of Trump.
None of them understand how an outsider came in and made this entire politics thing look so easy. None of them ever seen a leader make promises and actually deliver. He is making all their professional politicians look like uneducated children. They only wish they ever had a leader with his backbone. They want their own Trump. Look how desperate Newsom is trying to become Trump
Let’s take a look at the people who hate Trump and want you to hate Trump. Let’s look at what they accomplished and why any American would want to support them.
We remember day one Biden. He undid everything Trump and what happened next? Our borders were opened wide by that onion headed prick Mayorkas. The entire world was allowed to waltz into our country unvetted. Gangs, terrorists, murderers, rapists, drug cartels allowed to come in and live off our government. They were rewarded with, housing, food, clothing, free medical and money to live on while millions of our own Americans are homeless.
If that wasn’t enough, they did away with law and order. No one gets in trouble under Dem leadership unless of course you are white or black American. As for our military? The weakest in our existence. Our military built on discipline, respect and heart turned into frolicking grounds. The military under them turned into men wearing dresses, DEI, and Woke. A look so weak to the world it allowed Russia to invade Ukraine a war that even Putin said would have never happened under Trump. China was ready to take Taiwan, ready to take their place as the new number one world power. Iran was rolling in money and funding terrorists throughout the Middle East. Oct 7th would’ve never happened if Trump was President
This isn’t an opinion. These are the facts. This is what was happening in the real world. America was getting weaker, the citizens were getting poorer, our education system became a breeding ground for brainwashing our kids against America. What they did was mentally destroy our future. That was the plan, to get our kids under their control
They even went as far as not allowing parents to make decisions for their own kids. We watched them open our borders, we watched them try and take over our kids. These are indisputable facts. We watched them rig our courts with woke DEI liberal judges. We watched them try and defund the police. We watched them strip all law enforcement from their powers. Imagine this country without law enforcement?
We have two choices. Go back to the Dems way, or get behind the man fighting for us and our country. There is only one choice. The time is now to really open your eyes and stand tall with the man who lives our America. It is time to stand with Trump. We fight till the end. My two cents
🔥🔥🔥Breaking! Pennsylvania will never recover from this! The governor of Pennsylvania, @GovernorShapiro conspired to gaslight Americans with a psychological operation over medical health worries to win midterms for democrats!
Shapiro colluded with Protect Our Care, as you can see by his history in my photos. The Internet never forgets.
“Protect Our Care is not a public-health agency. It is a 501(c)(4) advocacy operation that says it uses a “campaign mentality” to influence policy, shape media narratives.”
Sayer:
🔵“Aug. 19—SIX DAYS before PA announced the deaths—Protect Our Care and 314 Action released polling that tested which vaccine messages made voters view Republicans less favorably.
Their conclusion: “Vaccines are on the ballot.””
🔴“Aug. 20—FIVE DAYS before the “deaths”—the same operation wrote:
“Needlessly putting kids in the hospital or morgue is a political loser.”
The emotional frame was already loaded.”
🟢“Aug. 25: PA announced two “measles-associated deaths.”
That same day, Protect Our Care declared Trump and RFK had fueled the crisis “resulting in” those deaths—and pushed a national headline package assigning blame.”
Archives to follow. And maybe I have something else up my sleeves.
1/ 🚨 What happened in Lancaster is no longer just a measles story. It is a case study in how a public-health event can be converted into an election-year weapon.
Pennsylvania announced two “measles-associated deaths.” Within hours, a prebuilt political influence apparatus was directing the blame toward RFK Jr., Trump and MAHA.
Receipts. @MAHA_Action 🧵👇
ANY SANE AMERICAN NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THIS SIMPLE FACT BEFORE NOVEMBER:
You have lived under different Presidents, different Congresses, different economic conditions, wars, recessions, inflation, high fuel prices, low fuel prices and political chaos - and America kept moving.
Your circumstances may have changed, but you are still living in the GREATEST COUNTRY ON PLANET EARTH.
But something is different now.
What many Americans grew up understanding as the political LEFT and RIGHT is no longer the same argument.
This isn't simply about tax rates, healthcare policy or how much government should spend anymore.
THE CULTURE ITSELF IS BEING FOUGHT OVER.
Things that would've been considered completely insane 20 or 30 years ago are now defended, celebrated and sometimes demanded.
Common sense became controversial.
Faith became offensive.
The traditional family became something people were embarrassed to defend.
Crime became something to explain away.
Borders became optional.
And increasingly, people were expected to remain silent because saying what they could see with their own eyes might get them labelled something horrible.
You are NOT DUMB.
You can see the cultural shift as clearly as daylight.
Republicans are imperfect. President Trump is imperfect. Every political party and every politician will disappoint you eventually.
America will survive another bad economic policy.
America will survive another foreign-policy disaster.
You will probably live through another recession.
You will see groceries become expensive again.
You will see fuel prices rise and fall.
You will see Republican Presidents come and go.
You will see Democratic Presidents come and go.
But there is something America may NOT easily recover once it disappears: the culture, values, freedoms and institutions that made America America in the first place.
Once a generation grows up believing those things are shameful, oppressive or disposable, rebuilding them becomes incredibly difficult.
That is why sitting out elections because you're angry with President Trump, or voting against Republicans simply to punish them, deserves SERIOUS thought.
It's like burning down your own house because you don't like the contractor.
Punish bad Republicans in primaries.
HOLD President Trump accountable when he gets things wrong.
Demand better candidates.
Demand better policies.
Demand results.
But don't lose sight of the larger battle because one politician irritated you.
Presidents come and go.
Political parties change.
Economic cycles change.
A civilization can change too - and some changes are extraordinarily difficult to reverse.
Vote with your eyes open.
Not because any politician is your savior.
But because the America your children inherit matters far more than whichever politician happens to occupy the White House for four years.
And here it is —
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Aaron Heitke, who served under five different administrations,
CONFIRMS BEYOND THE SHADOW OF A DOUBT:
He was ordered by the Biden–Harris terrorist administration to cover up, conceal, and manipulate data surrounding the invasion.
“We have no idea who or what is coming through our country.”
— SPECIAL INTEREST ALIENS (SIAs) AND KNOWN AND SUSPECTED TERRORISTS
“At the time, I was told I could not release any information on this increase in SIAs or mention any of the arrests. The administration was trying to convince the public there was no threat at the border.”
— FENTANYL
“San Diego accounts for between 80 and 90 percent of the methamphetamine and fentanyl seizures annually in our entire country. With little enforcement at the border, these drugs were coming through en masse. During my last year in San Diego, the price for a single pill of fentanyl dropped from $10 to just 25 cents.”
— FUNDING
“To make matters worse, during 2022 and 2023, I had to shut down San Diego traffic checkpoints — which are critical for drug interdiction — because resources had been diverted to the ‘Process and Release Mission.’”
— THE COVER-UP
“I had to release illegal aliens each day into communities that could not support them. To quiet the problem, two flights a week were provided from San Diego to Texas, each costing approximately $150,000. This was the administration’s way of trying to hide the border crisis.
Through pressure from the administration, my headquarters became more interested in the fiction being portrayed in the media than in reality.
We had 2,000 or more illegal aliens sitting between the fences, asking to turn themselves in. I WAS TOLD TO MOVE THEM OUT OF SIGHT OF THE MEDIA.”
📝 Every single Cabinet member within the Biden–Harris terrorist administration should be hunted down, placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, and tried for sedition for attempting to overthrow the constitutional republic of the United States.
This is N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas. She just won a runoff election in Oklahoma and is now the Democrat candidate for US Senate.
No. I'm not joking. I'm serious.
She makes AOC look like a freaking Mensa member.
Governor Shapiro's unseemly rush to Lancaster County to convene a national press conference and his giddy delight in announcing two measles deaths was a morose commentary on the contemporary political dialogue. The performance was a replay of the Democrats' COVID playbook: fearmongering, misinformation, finger-pointing, and the weaponization of infectious disease fears for political gain.
The announcement appears to have been premature, and the deaths may even have been altogether fabricated by one of the Governor's hopeful staffers. The Lancaster County Coroner says that it has no record of any measles deaths. State law requires that all measles deaths be reported to the coroner.
Governor Shapiro shattered tradition and violated standard public health policy by refusing to share information with the County Health Department or CDC.
Since I have been in office, CDC has had a superb record of cooperation, information sharing, and professionalism with blue- and red-state governors and health officials. Those collaborations have resulted in effective control of the global measles outbreak in this country.
Governor Shapiro got his headlines. He correctly gambled that the slavish mainstream media would dutifully amplify his scolding without any effort to check his facts.
Measles questions.
Let’s be clear- when the Governor comes into our county and holds a press conference with PA Department of Health and Penn Medicine Lancaster general Health and states there were two “measles-associated deaths” here, with the underlying assertion that the two people died FROM measles, and they are the first deaths from measles in 35 years, and that announcement sets off numerous media reports uncritically repeating that two people died FROM measles in Lancaster County, and Lancaster County elected officials then get questions about this – it is totally fair for me to ask for relevant information on those deaths.
Asking questions is not “pro-measles.”
Asking for information that should have been provided at the press conference is not “anti-science.”
It is simply wanting the whole story for my constituents.
When officials who hold a big press conference and make big headlines – those officials owe us more than the headlines. They owe us the whole truth. They owe us accurate information by which the people of Lancaster County can make decisions about their health and safety.
It has been about 24 hours since the press conference. We do not have any answers. Of course journalists should also be asking these questions rather than uncritically repeating something.
Any deaths from measles are required by law to be reported to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. I have spoken at length with both a senior staff member from that office and the Coroner himself. They currently have zero measles deaths in Lancaster County. They have one death of a person who died WITH measles, but not from measles. We do not know if the state is counting that one. Nor do we know anything about the other death that officials reported yesterday.
Is there an unlikely scenario where a patient from here got measles and sought care outside of Lancaster County and died there and it was reported to another county coroner? Yes. I am open to that or other unlikely possibilities. But if one of these unlikely scenarios is the case, the people holding the press conference had, and currently have, a responsibility to provide that information.
The law DOES allow release of more information. Demographic information that does not identify the patient may be released.
I reached out to Penn Medicine LGH. No response.
I reached out the Governor’s office. No response.
I talked with our Lancaster County Department of Public Safety Director. He has no additional information from the state.
I asked questions this morning at our Board of Commissioners meeting of Commissioner Alice Yoder who was at the press conference yesterday and is a former official at Penn Medicine LGH. She did not have any answers. (This exchange is on video and will be available later today.)
So as of right now, we have ZERO information that corroborates the idea that there were two measles deaths in Lancaster County. Again, everything stated could be accurate. But no one in authority has been able to say that, nor have they even tried to say it.
To me it is a big deal if the Governor comes in and gives a press conference and then no one can or will identify simple details around what was stated and what then generated major news stories.
Transparency is owed to the people.
It is incumbent on those who held the press conference to clear this up.
Immediately.
Next time the Democrats call Trump a threat to Democracy, kindly remind them….
It was the Democrats who let over 20 million illegals waltz straight into our country
It was the Democrats who allowed our streets to be flooded with fentanyl
It was the Democrats who allowed violent gangs into our country
It was the Democrats who allowed transgenders interact with our children
It was the Democrats who allowed the worlds largest child trafficking ring
It was the Democrats who declared war against our police
It was the Democrats who mandated you to be locked up on your homes while forcing you to take a vaccine they knew had dangerous side effects
Then remind them Trump closed the borders,
Trump is deporting those illegals
Trump ended the Maduro reign
Trump is ending the Iran reign
Trump has rebuilt our military to the point of domination
Trump has made us all safer
Trump has brought crime down to all time lows
And thanks to Trump this tax season has Americans rejoicing due to much larger tax returns
And the next time they say the word threat to Democracy? Remind every last one of those jerkoffs, we are a fucking Constitutional Republic and our Constitution is the law of the land! If these Democrat and RINOs don’t like it, then get the fuck out! As you can see it is RINO Season and we are hunting RINOs as we are getting rid of them one by one. We have the power. The power of our vote. United makes us unstoppable. My two cents
At his press conference today, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro accused me of promoting conspiracy theories because I told him, during an earlier telephone conversation, that some Americans had religious objections to the MMR vaccine because it contained fetal tissue. “There is no fetal tissue in the MMR,” he told me.
This is a segment from a videotaped deposition of Stanley Plotkin, the inventor of the MMR vaccine. Plotkin admits to butchering 76 aborted normally developing fetuses, all over three months old, in just one of the many studies that led to the development of his vaccine.
The rubella virus used in MMR-II is grown on the cultured cell line composed of lung tissue from an aborted three-month-old female embryo and listed as “WI-38 human diploid lung fibroblasts” in the ingredients of MMR-II as portions of these cells end up in each vial of MMR II.
During Dr. Plotkin’s deposition, Attorney Aaron Siri asked: “Isn’t it true that MMR II contains approximately 150 nanograms cells substrate double-strand DNA and single-strand DNA per dose purposefully fragmented to approximately 215 base pairs in length?” Dr. Plotkin answered: “Yeah, that’s probably correct, yes.”
This equals approximately 646 billion pieces of human DNA from an aborted fetal cell line in each vial of MMR-II.
In addition to the human DNA, there is also an unspecified amount of human cellular debris in each dose of MMR-II.
During our phone conversation, Governor Shapiro also accused me of promoting vaccine misinformation. When I asked him for an example, he was unable to provide one, but this did not deter him from publicly repeating that accusation during his press event. As I told him, HHS does not tolerate misinformation by any employee. I offered to point to hundreds of instances of vaccine misinformation by the Biden administration about which I had never heard him complain.
Governor Shapiro also faulted me for the decline in Pennsylvania vaccination rates from 97% - 93.2%. When I pushed back on this assertion, he acknowledged that most of the decline occurred during the Biden administration. It’s unfortunately true that the government lockdowns, deceptions, manipulation, and overreach during Covid severely damaged public faith in the vaccine program.
Governor Shapiro’s press conference was an example of the same species of gaslighting.
The Trump administration is working to restore public trust not by gaslighting or manipulating, but by being truthful, at last, with the public.
CNN's Strategy of Silence Worked.
One month ago today Rand Paul released the "Fauci Diaries."
Among the many revelations were instances where two of CNN's most high-profile anchors were private pals behind the scenes with the man they were theoretically tasked with reporting on objectively.
If they were actually "journalists" as they purport to be, that is. Which of course, they're not.
"Friendship building" dinner parties. Backchanneling interview questions. Texting insults about Republicans for laughs.
None of it was ever publicly addressed. Not by Tapper, not by Bash, not by anyone at CNN.
Complete and total silence.
The play was to let the furor die, let the news cycles grind away, and let the facts fade from memory.
And it worked.
It's been completely memory-holed, just one month later.
Meanwhile, Tapper, Bash and CNN chug along pretending they possess a shred of ethical standards or journalistic integrity.
This is CNN.
This will always be CNN.
An article I've been working on for a while.
The Seditious Six did not spring out of nowhere. They came from an institutional lineage that started soon after President Trump got elected. https://t.co/ThQ8CFmZpx
Let me just say something.
I've known Data Republican longer than most of you. She became an online friend back when my X account was much bigger than her X account.
I saw her making predictions about the 2024 election that were different than everybody else, grounded in novel analyses of data points nobody else ever looked at, and even before the actual election results proved that she was the most accurate electoral analyst on Planet Earth, I like to flatter myself and think that I spotted her analytical genius very early on.
I got to know her as a result of my admiration for her work.
I have talked to her a lot over the past couple of years. She is genuine. She is who she says she is, in every way. She is not an "op." She is not funded by [FILL IN THE BLANK OF WHATEVER ORGANIZATION YOU DESPISE]. She is an independent, extremely smart person with strong Christian moral convictions. She does what she thinks is right, and she stands in the fire bravely, in a way that few of us could ever bear.
Is she perfect? No. We all make mistakes. But you know what? When she does, she owns up to those mistakes, unlike 99% of the other "influencers" out there.
Which makes me admire her even more.
If you are one of those people who keep insisting she is some sort of paid information warfare operative as part of whatever conspiracy du jour has infested your inflamed cerebral cortex, you can just stick it, idiot.
I'm done.
