No one actually prepares you for the silence that hits a law school graduate after returning home. Apart from experiencing post bar finals traumatic stress disorder, you are disturbed emotionally and psychologically upon frequent concerns about " what next?". Depression sets in when you feel your life is stuck technically until the bar result is out; Council of legal education no send you o. It can take 6 months after to release the results. 😆 🤣 😂. If you are not, please, you can go to court.

You start seeing applications for graduate trainees and interns in several law firms and corporate organizations and start applying, reviewing CVs, and Cover letters day by day to fit in positions. If you are from a humble background, you will notice the stress in your parent's faces and their silent wish you start working sooner to start making things easier for them financially at home.

You must have updated your LinkedIn profile and applied to several jobs via the app to fulfill all righteousness. At that stage, you see some of your colleagues getting roles in good organizations whilst you might still be stuck in one place; no interviews despite persistent follow-ups of applications, and sending constant reminders.

You notice you start preferring being indoor, connecting with the Supernatural through meditation, silence and prayer often connected with the wish for a divine guidance as to the next step. This is when you will know you are just a roommate to Thomas or Sefiya in law school, you aren't from the same family and you don't have the same level of access and connections as leverage to secure opportunities.

You start thinking of many things to do; going for NYSC, learning a skill, creating content online, starting a business, taking menial or low paying jobs (mostly teaching) pending the time you will get the results. You might even begin questioning your intelligence and how impactful your years in the university are for you can practically do nothing.

If you are in this state, I want you to understand that many of us experienced the same, and here we are, making wonders in the legal profession and building a reputation of excellence and exceptionality. It is a phase and it will soon pass. Don't stop shooting your shots at the organizations you admire, read self development books, exercise regularly, attend occasions to connect with people more, and start from where you are. Some growth aren't loud, they are attained from silence.
