Uganda’s energy transition must go beyond lighting homes. The next frontier is productive use:
☀️ Solar irrigation
❄️ Solar cold chains
🌾 Solar agro-processing
🚜 Solar-powered agriculture
This is where energy access becomes:
✔️ food security
✔️ climate resilience
✔️ rural industrialization
✔️ jobs and incomes
Uganda has the potential to become Africa’s leading model for integrating agriculture, productive energy use, and decentralized solar systems.
The future of energy transition in Africa is not only about megawatts.
It is about transforming livelihoods.

While delivering his remarks, Mr. Roy Nyamutale Baguma @rbaguma608, MD @UECCC1, reflected on Uganda’s progress and challenges in expanding access to sustainable energy solutions.
He highlighted that @GovUganda through @MEMD_Uganda, over the last decade, has made deliberate investments in promoting renewable energy and climate-smart financing, with UECCC playing a pivotal role in executing these ambitions.
Citing data from the 2024 Uganda Census by @StatisticsUg, he emphasized that only 3.8% of Uganda’s 10.8 million households currently use clean energy for cooking. This gap presents both a challenge and an opportunity for climate action through scalable, targeted interventions in clean cooking, off-grid solar, and productive use of energy.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development @MEMD_Uganda and @UECCC1, alongside key energy stakeholders, are taking part in a focused training facilitated by the @WorldBank on the Bank’s Environment & Social Framework and its application in projects—strengthening the Electricity Access Scaleup Project (EASP) implementation with people & planet in mind.

We are live at Kiboga Ssaza grounds for the official #RBFLaunch Various #CleanEnergy service companies are on ground displaying their discounted products.
Mr. Samuel Ocanya the Electricity Access Scale-Up Project (EASP) Manager at Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company (@UECCC1), discusses the World Bank-funded project.
The project is set to be launched in West Nile Region on August 2nd, 2024, at Nebbi SS.
#ElectricityForAll
The project entails construction of 9 mini hydro power plants (combined capacity of 6.7 MW) & construction of a local distribution network (288 KM) in the project area as well as connecting up-to 71,081 households in the project area.
Today was momentous as MD @rbaguma608 signed the contract for Electromechanical works of the ORIO mini hydro power project with Ossberger GmbH. The Project is funded under a Grant Arrangement between Netherlands Govt & @GovUganda with UECCC as the designated Implementing Agency.
Our MD @rbaguma608 speaks at the 2nd National Microfinance and Savings Groups Conference happening now. He encouraged the attendees to take advantage of the funding available at @UECCC1 under the Electricity Access Scale Up Project. #Micfinconf2024

“This week, agriculture and energy sector players from #Tanzania, #Kenya and #Uganda are meeting at the (Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosytem Model (#DREEM) AGM 2024 in Dar -es Salaam Tanzania to share lessons and best practices on scaling productive use of renewable energy in the agrifood systems.
Convened by the Mott Foundation and its subgrantees Heifer International Uganda, WWF Tanzania and Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC), the discussions will review the different pathways under the #DREEM Hub and identify strategies to develop sustainable Productive Use of #Renewable Energy (#PURE) or agrisolar ecosystems in the project countries.
The opening panel session discussed access to finance under the theme, “Financing an ecosystem of Agrisolar entrepreneurs in East Africa" and these submissions stood out:
“Commercial lenders should develop product portfolios that match agrisolar customer”
Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) is key to socioeconomic transformation. As we develop strategies we ought to consider both push (production enhancement) as well as pull (value addition and post harvest) technology - @brianisabirye at the #DREEM conference, Tz @Heifer
