Today, Uganda assumes the Chairmanship of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of Heads of State and Government (2026–2028) at the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
Context; The @APRMorg is Africa’s home-grown governance accountability instrument under the AU, established in 2003. It is a voluntary peer review system through which Member States assess each other’s performance in democracy, political governance, economic management, corporate governance, and socio-economic development.
At the apex of this structure sits the APR Forum, composed of participating Heads of State and Government, providing political leadership, policy direction and oversight of governance reforms across the continent.
What does Means for @aprm_ug? It places Uganda at the center of driving governance dialogue, peer learning and reform advocacy across APRM member states.
For Uganda, it is both a diplomatic endorsement and a governance test an opportunity to lead by example while shaping Africa’s governance trajectory.
The Road Ahead? Uganda’s chairmanship comes at a time when Africa is redefining governance within the context of Agenda 2063, economic integration under the AfCFTA and rising citizen expectations.
The task is clear: strengthen the credibility of the APRM, accelerate implementation of review outcomes and champion African solutions for accountable, people-centered governance.
Uganda steps into this role not just as Chair, but as a steward of Africa’s collective governance progress.

A strong engagement led by @AmoruPaul continues to reflect the growing momentum in strengthening Uganda–Southern Africa tourism ties.
He successfully brought leading Southern African and regional Destination Management Companies into our market, giving them firsthand exposure to Uganda’s tourism offering at the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2026.
This kind of practical market access and exposure is exactly what translates strategy into results building confidence in Destination Uganda, opening new commercial pathways, and deepening intra-African tourism linkages.
It also aligns closely with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s consistent call for African integration, trade expansion, and leveraging tourism as a key driver of economic transformation.
When our missions actively connect markets and our private sector delivers experiences on the ground, Uganda’s story becomes easier to sell, and more powerful to scale. @UgEmbassySA
Uganda High Commission in Pretoria Hosts Southern African Travel Trade Delegation at POATE 2026
Kampala, Uganda | 21 May 2026
The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria has successfully hosted a delegation of 10 leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs) from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe at the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo 2026, following an educational and familiarization tour of Uganda.
The initiative was designed to provide key Southern African travel professionals with firsthand experience of Uganda’s tourism products while creating opportunities to engage with Ugandan tourism stakeholders during the country’s premier tourism and travel trade exhibition.
During their stay, the delegation explored Uganda’s diverse tourism attractions, including wildlife, culture, hospitality, and adventure experiences, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to promote Destination Uganda within their respective markets.
Speaking about the programme, Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Paul Amoru, said:
“Our objective is to strengthen tourism partnerships between Uganda and Southern Africa by giving travel trade professionals a firsthand experience of our destination. We are confident this initiative will translate into stronger business relationships and increased visitor arrivals to Uganda.”
The delegation is participating in a series of business-to-business meetings, networking sessions, and destination presentations at POATE 2026, creating new opportunities for collaboration between Ugandan tourism operators and their Southern African counterparts.
The initiative reflects Uganda’s commitment to strengthening intra-African tourism and expanding its footprint within key regional source markets.
Uganda continues to strengthen its position as a leading tourism destination in Africa through strategic engagement with key source markets.
At the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2026 in Kampala, I was pleased to host and lead a delegation of 10 leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs) from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, who I invited to Uganda following a successful familiarisation tour.
This initiative was deliberately designed to give Southern African travel trade professionals firsthand experience of Uganda’s diverse tourism offering — from our unmatched wildlife and adventure experiences to our rich cultural heritage, hospitality, and natural beauty. Nothing promotes Destination Uganda better than experiencing it directly.
The delegation also engaged in structured business-to-business meetings, networking sessions, and destination showcases with Ugandan tourism stakeholders at POATE 2026, creating practical pathways for partnerships, increased visibility, and market expansion.
As I emphasized during the engagement:
“Our objective is to strengthen tourism partnerships between Uganda and Southern Africa by giving travel trade professionals a firsthand experience of our destination. We are confident this initiative will translate into stronger business relationships and increased visitor arrivals to Uganda.”
Uganda remains committed to deepening intra-African tourism, expanding strategic partnerships, and ensuring that Destination Uganda continues to compete strongly across key regional and global markets.

IOGP Summit 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Discussing the Energy Trilemma:
1. Security - energy security is national security.
2. Affordability - energy dominance is economic dominance.
3. Transition - must be affordable and support greater energy security.
What makes the theme for YouLead Summit 2026 special is that it speaks directly to the lived experiences of young Africans.
“Breaking Barriers, Building the Future: Youth Advancing Sustainable Development through Peace, Justice & Green Transition.”
This year’s Summit is about creating space for those conversations.
It is about turning barriers into action points, ideas into collaborations and youth voices into influence.
Because the future of Africa cannot be built without its young people at the center of it.
