Hice una primera investigación sobre $TIG y, tras este primer día, me ha pasado algo parecido a cuando empecé a estudiar $TAO.

Me despertó curiosidad.

Antes de nada: todavía me falta entender bien cómo nació el protocolo, el mecanismo de staking, los retos, los incentivos y el modelo completo.

Pero lo que veo de entrada es esto:
una fábrica intentando automatizar una de las cosas más valiosas del mundo.
Descubrir mejores algoritmos.

Es decir:
encontrar formas más eficientes de resolver problemas.
Y esto no me parece menor.

Una mejora del 1% en rutas logísticas, consumo energético, búsqueda de datos o procesos industriales puede significar millones para una empresa.

Eso es lo que me parece interesante de @tigfoundation .

Prometheus, la última actualización del proyecto, podría añadir una pieza potente en los próximos meses:
pasar de depender solo de investigadores humanos a permitir que enjambres de agentes de IA busquen, prueben y aprendan en paralelo.

Es decir:
abrir la competición.

Lo que hizo Wikipedia con el conocimiento.
Lo que hizo Bitcoin con el dinero.
Lo que hace Bittensor con la IA.

TIG parece intentar hacerlo con el descubrimiento algorítmico.
Y eso, si se cumple, puede ser enorme.

Casi como ver a alguien intentando descubrir el fuego por primera vez, pero en versión algorítmica.

No digo que ya lo entienda todo.
De hecho, creo que aquí hay una duda importante:
si el modelo depende mucho de licencias empresariales, entonces el gran reto no es solo técnico.
Es comercial.

Y ya hemos visto que ese es uno de los grandes problemas de muchos proyectos de criptomonedas.

Pero con los modelos abiertos empezamos a ver cómo se puede acelerar la innovación fuera de laboratorios cerrados.
Y TIG parece haber hecho algún avance interesante en esa dirección.

Me huele a algo que merece ser estudiado con calma.

TIG intenta convertir inteligencia computacional en propiedad intelectual abierta y licenciable.
Y esa idea, como mínimo, merece atención.

Como mi nombre indica, ya sabéis mi afán por estos sistemas abiertos.
Está en una etapa muy temprana.
Pero le voy a dedicar algo de tiempo.

For years the rule in AI has been simple:

If you want to train powerful models, you need massive data centers.

Thousands of GPUs sitting next to each other with fast connections between machines. Basically creating a controlled infrastructure owned by a single company.

That physical requirement is one of the main reasons AI power has concentrated inside companies like OpenAI, Google and Meta.

But something interesting just happened on Bittensor.

Subnet 3 completed the largest decentralized AI training run ever.

The result: Covenant-72B.

𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞

Here are the stats on Covenant-72B:

🔸 72 billion parameters
🔸 ~1.1 trillion training tokens
🔸 70+ independent contributors
🔸 fully permissionless participation

Extremely impressive if you ask me, especially because anyone with GPUs could join or leave during training.

And despite running over the open internet, the model achieved performance competitive with centralized models like LLaMA-2-70B and LLM360 K2.

On the widely used MMLU benchmark it scored 67.1, outperforming both.

That alone makes it one of the most important experiments in decentralized AI so far.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞

Training large AI models requires machines to constantly exchange updates. if you're using a data center that isn't that hard.

But doing this over the internet, that's a real challenge!

Typical connections are hundreds of times slower.

Without a novel approach, decentralized training simply doesn’t work.

𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐋𝐨𝐂𝐨

Templar solved this using a training method called SparseLoCo.

In simple terms:

Instead of constantly sharing huge updates between machines, each participant trains locally for a while and only shares the most important information.

Those updates are:

🔸 heavily compressed
🔸 shared less frequently
🔸 filtered to keep only the most useful signals

This reduces communication requirements by >146× compared to traditional training methods.

The result is something remarkable; a 72B parameter model trained across the internet with efficient communication and high compute utilisation.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬

Another major difference is that anyone could join the training run. If you look at earlier decentralized experiments, these often relied on whitelisted participants.

Templar removed that restriction.

But it creates a problem seen in many subnets, gaming the system.

To solve this, Templar introduced a validation system called Gauntlet.

Each participant's updates are continuously evaluated and scored. Only useful contributions are accepted into the model.

In other words, the network constantly verifies who is actually helping train the AI, and only those are getting paid.

𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The biggest insight from this experiment is simple, the bottleneck for decentralized AI wasn’t physics.

It was coordination.

By solving bandwidth limitations and introducing trustless validation, Subnet 3 shows that large-scale AI training can happen across globally distributed hardware.

If this approach continues to scale, it changes the economics of AI development.

Instead of intelligence being produced only by a handful of companies, it can be coordinated by open networks like Bittensor.

Just a side note, this is just the result of 1 subnet, indeed a very good one but just one.

$TAO will change the course of AI development.
