Is the market front running a cooler CPI?

A lot of bad news has hit in the last few days:

1. Oil is back above $95
2. Trump says the Houthis are trying to drive up oil prices
3. Netanyahu and Trump reportedly discussed renewed strikes on Iran
4. Semiconductors (SOXX) are down 9.65% in 7 days
5. BlackRock cut its view on US stocks

Yet the S&P 500 held 7,787 yesterday and closed flat, and Bitcoin is still around $83,000.

S&P future is also up +0.45% from yesterday bottom.

Fed officials seem to expect inflation to come down.

Williams said one more hike is appropriate this year because inflation is still above the Fed's 2% target, but he sees no need for a hike in 2027.

He also sees signs that inflation will slow "quite a bit" and move toward 2% next year.

Today's CPI is expected to show headline inflation rising to about 3.6% on gas prices, with core staying at 0.2% for the month and about 2.5% over the year.

It looks like the market is betting that core CPI comes in cool.
