PC Gamer senior editor Wes Fenlon put it well: "Establishing rules around AI is not just about protecting jobs—it's about preserving the integrity, reputation and trustworthiness of our brands."
One of the main priorities of our @futureplc coworkers has been getting strong protections around generative AI. We're extremely concerned with how AI has negatively impacted outlets that have adopted it too hastily.
To help blunt the impact of today's layoffs, we're raising money for folks across Vox Media who lost their jobs today. Please donate some cash if you're able, and share this link.

We had a great turnout of our @futureplc colleagues in the union last night to reconfirm our top priorities as we enter the last few days of our current contract!
@futureplc “We need better annual raises so that we can make up what we've lost to inflation since the last contract,” John Loeffler of Tech Radar says. “Our salary demands aren't unreasonable. Management knows it too, since they're paying the same prices we are.”
While we fight for raises that keep @futureusunion members able to feed their families and pay medical bills, management deflects. Over the summer, @Futureplc proposed a £45 million stock buyback, but now there's just not enough money for raises that keep up with inflation.
@MacMcMillanATL Management, on the other hand, wants to reduce that parental leave. Stay tuned for further testimonials from our unit members as we continue to bargain in the week before our contract's expiration.
Today, the WGAE members @futureplc are back at the bargaining table. In the last week before our contract expires on Dec 3, we’ll be letting you know why we are grateful for our union and the contract and what we want to see improved!
“Our benefits are amazing,” says member @MacMcMillanATL of Tom's Guide. “I'm about to have a kid and the parental leave I get from the union is a genuine lifesaver, allowing me to take care of my newborn child and us to put off expensive day care for another few months.”
Future Union US will continue to support our friends & colleagues in the film and television industry in their fight for a decent & dignified life in every way we can & we have no doubt that they will win. #Solidarity
Like you, we enjoy the films & TV shows written by WGA writers & we are appalled by the abysmal pay & working conditions of too many of our colleagues in the @WGAWest & @WGAEast. They are now on #WGAStrike, fighting for a dignified living & have our unequivocal support #WGAStrong
Instead, we will be watching the 200+ studios represented by the AMPTP & we will remember how they respond to their writers’ just & reasonable demands for fair pay & treatment.
This is unacceptable behavior, especially from a profitable company. We hope @futureplc will do the right thing and extend COBRA and severance for our laid-off unit members.
With @FuturePLC in apparently strong financial standing, we again ask that management extend the COBRA coverage and severance of our unit members who were abruptly laid off.
In the midst of an ongoing pandemic, it's truly the least you can do. /END
.@FuturePLC recently laid off two of our unit members without giving any prior notice to the union. The layoffs were not just handled poorly, but cruelly.
We’re now urging management to extend these unit members’ COBRA and severance. /1
