I feel like a lot of reviews and general takeaways from Obsession, whether positive or negative, attempt to box it in when the movie’s clear goal is to take a genuine, honest look at how bad people (Bear) come to be via compromises, decisions, and indecisions.

Ancient Greece itself is better understood as an extension of the rest of the ancient Mediterranean than as part of an Occident that didn’t yet exist.

All and all, you’re wrong about the Ancient Greeks respecting women in any capacity. You can respect their achievements w/o romanticizing the bad.
