@TadhgCalbhaigh@ChrisFinch1776 If the issue is truly “insignificant” and we have bigger problems — which we do — we need to shift and concede. We’re not adversaries, but peoples who share much ethnically, culturally and spiritually. Yet we are distinct — and proud of it.
@TadhgCalbhaigh@ChrisFinch1776 I think we have come to a point in the general population here, where we are ready to put this to bed. The burden however, needs to be shifted from the “Irish just need to forget about it” — to upon us, to just let the North be governed by the Irish. We are at the junction now.
@nijineko33@Sargon_of_Akkad I’ve just ran the data —
61,000 illegals from UK passage way since 2021 who stayed.
259,700 legal immigrants from Third World since 2021 who stayed.
71.8% seems to Irish government importing them.
28.2% seems to UK illegal entry.
@TadhgCalbhaigh@ChrisFinch1776 Rupert Lowe may reflect this archetype more however, but then again he’s in his 70s.
We already joke and call him a boomer.
@Mick_O_Keeffe Completely disagree. I grew up in England & Ireland.
British nationalism has two forms: archaic, now largely confined to Ulster; and modern, across Great Britain, which is largely uninterested in Ulster and sees it as a liability.
@mattfle02898557@TadhgCalbhaigh If the North is given to the Republic — it solves a major herdle in our relations — especially with well-minded Irishmen & women, who we share so much. I understand the arguments — but we need to put this issue to bed. It’s has destroyed our kinship for too long.
@TadhgCalbhaigh@ChrisFinch1776 I don’t think its that clear in Ireland & among Irish circles — that British Nationalism in the North of Ireland is of a different nature to that of British Nationalism on the Island of Britain. In fact in reality they should be distinct forms, as they’ve grown so apart.
